🩰Building the future of classical ballet through the Cecchetti Method

The Cecchetti Method of ballet training is a progressive system of training dancers from a pre-ballet beginning level to a professional level. The Cecchetti Method was designed with careful regard to the laws of anatomy to prepare a dancer’s body to bear the physical demands of public performance. The Method embodies qualities that are essential to the dancer; balance, poise, strength, elevation, elasticity, musicality and artistry. Cecchetti USA has established a syllabus of carefully orchestrated exercises that build in complexity ensuring that each new movement is introduced from a fundamental approach. As each movement is mastered and refined, new movements are introduced. This progressive approach with attention to detail has produced a long list of very famous and accomplished ballet dancers. The Cecchetti Method is classic in its purity and clean style and enables dancers to respond to the demands of a variety of choreographers. The Method emphasizes the importance of using the entire body to establish a feeling for line. Focus is on instruction by studying and absorbing the basic principles which govern the art, rather than by mere imitation of an individual's teaching style. Balance between the daily practice of both Cecchetti's set exercises and each teacher's new sequences is essential to producing a well rounded and versatile dancer.

✨ DIPLOMA DÉVELOPPÉ | A DEEPER UNDERSTANDING OF THE METHOD

What happens when we look beyond the steps and explore the principles behind them?

This past weekend, teachers gathered in Cheshire, Connecticut, for an extraordinary educational experience led by Betty Seibert, Cecchetti USA’s esteemed Director of Examinations and Senior International Examiner.

Over four days, participants explored the Enrico Cecchetti Diploma in remarkable detail, working through the Monday–Saturday exercises and examining their technical foundations, artistic qualities, and historical significance.

Betty Seibert’s exceptional knowledge brought the syllabus to life. Through careful demonstrations, detailed explanations, and excerpts from classical ballets, participants discovered the origins of the movements and their relevance to the art form we teach today.

Perhaps most valuable was the opportunity to trace the Diploma work through the progressive Cecchetti syllabus, all the way down to Grade 4.

By understanding the most advanced work, we gain a deeper appreciation for the foundations we establish in our youngest dancers.

Teachers and examiners joined us both in person and via Zoom, sharing questions, discoveries, and a collective passion for continuing education.

✨ STUDIO SUCCESS! ✨

Congratulations to Elevate Motion Studio on completing its very first Cecchetti exam session!

The studio’s teachers Lillian and Emma took their Grade 3 exam followed by their Teaching Certificate 1 exam. They trained diligently with Heidi Zolty over Zoom. What an exciting milestone for this growing Cecchetti community!

We also celebrate studio owner Elise Geissler-Huesgen. It takes an exceptional and dedicated studio leader to introduce and implement the Cecchetti Method, investing in both student development and continued teacher education. Through Elise’s commitment, Elevate Motion’s dancers are building strong technical foundations in an environment that values thoughtful, progressive training.

Let’s check in with Emily Kim (), our 2024 CICB Junior Competitor Contemporary Winner! 🩰🏆

Since CICB, Emily has completed her Grade 9 Cecchetti exam and is now working toward Grade 10.

Emily is entering her senior year at Turning Pointe Dance Academy and will be auditioning for college dance programs later this year! 🎓✨

Looking ahead, Emily hopes to continue her dance education in college and eventually join a company.

Reflecting on her CICB experience, Emily shared:

“Through dancing at the CICB competition, I felt greatly motivated and inspired by all of the talented dancers. The competition taught me to always support my peers and take advantage of every moment!!"
