Good evening everyone.

I wish I were making a fun Christmas post, but unfortunately I have a disappointing announcement.

We have made the difficult decision to cease operations at the end of business on January 27th.

As many of you are aware, we have had quite the string of bad luck in 2023. We have lost 3 out of 5 airplanes to natural disaster and incidents, with avionics theft adding to the burden. After careful consideration, we have simply found no reasonable path that allows us to continue to provide the quality of product that we expect of ourselves. We will continue to operate normally until Jan 27, then we will close the doors for good.

We have truly enjoyed building the community that we have at Smith Aviation and David Jay Perry Airport over these last four years, and it’s with great regret that we have to stop growing that community. We appreciate the local community’s support for our flight school, and our customers commitment to our little school. We are proud to have grown our local aviation community and had a hand in developing so many wonderful pilots. Shelby and I will still have our personal airplanes at 1K4 and continue to be active in the local GA scene, and we hope that you all will always reach out if we can help with anything.

We are so incredibly blessed by our local aviation community. Because of all of you we will have our fleet back up and flying tomorrow. The generosity of everyone loaning us equipment is truly unbelievable, as well as the amazing generosity we’ve seen of businesses reaching out to offer any help they can with procuring new units.
