Exciting news for educators in North Carolina!
Educator Preparation Program (EPP) faculty from community colleges across the state recently collaborated to develop and align standards, learning outcomes, and coursework for six new Residency Licensure areas. This statewide effort will expand access to teacher licensure opportunities through the community college system and help address educator workforce needs across North Carolina.
As part of this initiative, Wayne Community College's EPP is expanding its offerings and will launch five new Residency Licensure Certificates beginning this fall. In addition to the Elementary Education Residency Licensure Certificate, teachers can now pursue residency licensure in:

High School Science

Middle School Science
The EPP provides coaching, guidance, and supportive coursework through convenient online platforms, all at community college tuition rates.

Four WCC graduates have been accepted into NC State University's Goodnight Transfer Scholars Program, receiving full-tuition scholarships! π
Michael Lane, Alejandro Rivera, Seth Lazarus, and Ely Charqueno graduated from WCC this spring and are four of 60 students selected for the transfer program's class of 2029.
The Goodnight Scholars went through a rigorous application and interview process where they demonstrated outstanding academic achievement, extracurricular involvement, and community engagement. We are so proud of our Bison for this major accomplishment and can't wait to see the great things they do as they join the Wolfpack!

π Congratulations to the Leadership Wayne Class of 2025β2026! π
Wayne Community College proudly recognizes our team members who participated in this yearβs program: Workforce & Community Service Programs Coordinator Krystle Anderson and Employer & School Engagement Coordinator Kaitlyn Dean. Krystle was also appointed to the Board of Regents during the graduation ceremony.
We also extend our appreciation to Chad Evans, who was honored for his three years of service on the Board of Regents; Marketing & Communications Coordinator Bilma Iniguez and Small Business Center Director Esteban GuzmΓ‘n, who both served throughout the year as Board of Regents members.
Leadership Wayne, led by the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce, develops informed, committed, and proactive leaders dedicated to strengthening the Wayne County community.

WCC's first cohort of electrical apprentices completed their program through Apprenticeship Wayne. π Through the program, 14 apprentices trained with either Pitt Electric or Allegiance Industries and received online instruction through WCC.
The electrical apprentices were honored at a recognition ceremony for completing the four-year program and received their journeyman certificates from ApprenticeshipNC and the U.S. Department of Labor. We are so proud of this group for their hard work and commitment to earning their new credential!

WCC and Lenoir Community College have formed a new partnership to offer WCC's Artificial Intelligence Engineer program to LCC students.
Once students finish their first-year courses at LCC, they can take WCC's AI courses online and earn their degree, learning the skills needed to design, implement, and support AI and help organizations transition to AI technology.
We are grateful for our partnership with LCC and look forward to seeing our AI graduates make a difference in both of our communities.
