The 2026-2027 Golden LEAF Scholarship application is open for students enrolled full-time at WCC!

This scholarship provides up to $2,250 annually for curriculum students and $1,850 annually for Workforce and Continuing Education students. Awards can be applied toward tuition, fees, books, supplies, transportation, childcare expenses related to attending classes, and credential testing upon course completion.

Applications must be submitted by September 15 to receive funds for the fall 2026 semester. Visit waynecc.edu/scholarships/ to apply.

Learn the skills needed to work in a public safety communications center and serve as a 9-1-1 telecommunicator or dispatcher. This 77-hour course combines classroom instruction with hands-on training in call taking, Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), radio procedures, emergency communications, and realistic dispatch scenarios.

🗓️Next Class: August 17 – November 2, 2026
-Mondays: 6–10 p.m.
-Wednesdays: 6–9 p.m.

Enrollment Requirements:
• 18 years of age or older
• High school diploma or GED

• TABE reading placement test score at the 10th-grade level

Today our BLET students stepped into the role of investigators as they learned the fundamentals of criminal investigations. From securing crime scenes and preserving evidence to interviewing witnesses and documenting findings, students are developing the knowledge and skills needed to conduct thorough, professional investigations.
Every detail matters, and today's training reinforced the importance of integrity, critical thinking, teamwork, and attention to detail in the pursuit of justice.
We're proud of the hard work and dedication these future law enforcement officers continue to demonstrate each day.

Welcome! Wayne Community College BLET Class #89. The twenty-five students you see have started their journey into the law enforcement profession today. It will be a busy day full of paperwork, classroom protocol, and finishing with Course Orientation. Course Orientation introduces the students to the BLET program's strict curriculum, administrative policies, and state commission standards. This is the start of their 22-week class.

Thank you, Pro 27 Leadership, for equipping our future law enforcement officers with the mental and emotional tools required for this profession. Investing in leadership and character development is critical to their long-term success.

Recently, the soon-to-be graduates of Wayne Community College’s Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) program spent a day in leadership development with Pro 27 Leadership.

Learning tactics, laws, and procedures is critical, but being a first responder is hard enough without first understanding who you are, what you stand for, and why you serve. Before these men and women go out to protect their communities, they must develop the mindset, character, and purpose that will sustain them through the challenges ahead.

Through the S.H.A.R.P. System, we explored the importance of building a secure foundation, leading with honesty, living authentically, responding with resilience, and serving with purpose.

Grateful for the opportunity to invest in these future heroes and leaders. The communities they serve and the families they go home to will be better because of it.

Monday night, May 18, 2026 the Public Safety Division hosted Honoring Our Fallen Heroes Memorial Service. The service honored all Wayne County First Responders (EMS, Fire, and Law Enforcement officers) who have died in the line of duty.
