End of the year testing starts after Memorial Day. I have created 3 teaching videos on test taking Strategies and recognizing barrier words. It is testing time. We don't have to teach, test and hope for the best when we have strategies and understanding of the content being tested. Remove the barriers teach testing taking strategies and have a culture of high expectations and the students will be successful!
The are all reading tests! Math -word problems...Science- Graphs, Illustrations and Scenarios.... Social Studies- interpreting historical events and scenarios.
Removing the Barriers
Since students have to take these test, then they need to set up for success. Not only do they need to understand and define content vocabulary. Students must understand and define Barrier Words. Barrier Words are words that can be a :"barrier" to comprehending the questions. We have to teach them the meanings of the words so we they can remove the barriers. Below is list of barrier words that are found on all tests.
