March meeting
Lee Hulse and Suzie Acree
Literacy Connections is a Wayne County non-profit aimed at supporting illiterate adults
They also provide financial, health and digital literacy program for adults
They are opening a used book store on Center Street (late spring/early summer) called “Round About Books” They will use workforce opportunity youth interns to staff the store. They have also acquired The Terrace Room for event rentals as a revenue source to fund the nonprofit
They shared the need for assistance with many families understanding school paperwork in our community. There has been a grant awarded for this service and they’re currently running into roadblocks of finding the right fit in schools. There’s a definite need, but the manpower and outreach has been a challenge. They shared compelling stories of how much of an impact their program provides for the illiterate and English-language learners especially
We also collected can foods to be donated to the Goldsboro Soup Kitchen for the month of March

Manipulatives and special learning tools are available for students and families to borrow such as “Wonder Pens” and “Reader pens” which read aloud to students
In other news for the month :
For February Meeting, sisters will bring $10 or more to cover the cost of a wool and water repellant blanket to support Western NC hurricane relief. This altruism project will assist St. Luke Church’s efforts in conjunction with Church World Service
Lee Hamm made a motion and seconded by Lillie Jones that we will write a card to mail to Linda Harris’ family and this altruism project (We purchased 14 blankets) will be in her memory. Linda Harris was a long time Alpha Gamma sister.

This season can be so busy for many of us, me included! So with that being said here is a post that will show our 2 most recent meetings 🙃
November’s meeting was such a blessing! We exchanged delicious cookies and enjoyed fellowship and discussed upcoming events.
December’s meeting tonight was toasty and felt like home. We ate soup/chili and sandwiches and spent time with each other, sharing our “blessings” and just catching up with those who can relate to us and be a safe place to land after the hard days!
Looking for a group like this? If you are an educator you can have a place here, too! 📚👩🏻🏫♥️
