Happy June, GPS Families!

We have 5 days of school left! Time really does fly when you are having fun and learning with your besties! ❤️

Last week, we extended our learning environments and connected with learning partners in our amazing community! Thank you to FVRL Goldendale Library for hosting our students and supporting reading and learning. 📚

Thank you to KVH for hosting our Kindergarten students and teaching about healthcare and our local hospital! 🏥

Our First Grade students had Zoo Day, where they shared their knowledge and research about their favorite animal! 🦒 🐒🐯🐘🦘

We walked MILES and MILES in the Walk-A-Thon! Stay tuned for totals next week! 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

As we wrap up another year, I want to say THANK YOU for your support and partnership! We love your kids and together, we make a GREAT team!🥰

The LOST AND FOUND IS OVERFLOWING! Come check it out! Teachers will walk kids through this week. Unclaimed items will be donated on the last day of school!🧥

EARLY 11:45 A.M. RELEASE ON FRIDAY, JUNE 12 for the last day of school! 🗓️

Things I learned from my students last week:
1. I got a new haircut! My mom cut my hair into a Mohawk and it looked silly so she cut it off!
2. People can teleport. I just saw that guy by the tree and now he is over here. He teleported. That is the only explanation.
3. 4 laps around the track is a mile. 32 laps is 8 miles and lots of sweat!
4. Habit 7 is taking care of your body, heart, mind, and soul. It is all of the habits put together.
5. Habit 8 is Find your Voice; find your strength and share it with others to inspire them!
6. I walked so many laps that I can’t feel my feet. Are they still there?
7. Otters make good use of tools like opening their clam with rocks, and they eat kelp.
8. Sharks have 300 teeth with a gape width of 3-4 feet and height of 3-5 feet so don’t get near a shark’s mouth!
9. Parrots can have almost every color in the rainbow in their feathers.
10. Dolphins can swim fast in the water and they are mammals.
11. Deer eat plants and live in the forest.
12. Cheetahs are the fastest animal in the world! They run really fast like speed demons. They also eat bunnies! Yikes!
13. Foxes can have as many as 24 dens. They eat small animals.
14. Giraffes eat leaves and live in the Savannah.
15. Whales live in the oceans and like to share their meals with one another, even the killer whales.
16. Kangaroos are mammals and so are dolphins and humans.
17. Monkeys swing from branch to branch in the rain forest.
18. Takis are good, but Fuego. They are full flame!
19. Hospitals help people when they are hurt and they have beds on wheels.
20. Hospitals have machines that can see your insides, like X-ray vision!

Mrs. Casey's class, and the Kindergarten classes, had a wonderful time during our field trip to Klickitat Valley Health! KVH truly goes above and beyond to create meaningful learning experiences for our students, and this visit was no exception. We are so grateful to the staff at KVH for their time, generosity, and commitment to supporting local students. Thank you for making this special opportunity possible!

Happy Last Day of May, GPS Families!

What a beautiful way to ease out of May and into June! ☀️

We need your help! Reminder: NO GUM at GPS! Keep gum at home for an after school treat! 🚫

We had a busy short week last week learning in different environments wirh our learning partners! ❤️

First Grade went to the Presby Museum and learned about the history of Klickitat County! What an amazing way to bring their study of “Long, Long Ago” to life!

Fourth grade went to Water Jam at the Underwood Fish Hatchery to continue their study of ecology and the life cycle of salmon.

GPS participated in FFA Ag Day where we learned about the different agricultural farm to table and service partners in our community! We got to see some animals and big machinery too! 🚜 🐷 🦆 🐓

We have 10 days of school left, and have many learning experiences planned, including some summer reading planning! As schedules start to change, please remind your students of our three truths of being a LEADER: Be Safe, Kind, and Responsible wirh Integrity and Respect! 🥰

10 DAYS to RECOVER your LOST Items in the Lost and Found!

Things I learned from my students this week:
1. I think they call ducks ducks because they duck under water to get food.
2. Pigs are stinky and like the mud. It keeps them cool in the hot air.
3. There were all kinds of farm animals at Ag Day, even lizards…blue belly and alligator. I think they are related to dinosaurs.
4. Dogs like chickens. I know because we used to have chickens but our dogs killed them and they are livestock dogs!
5. I am glad that I go to the dentist now, not long ago. The tools are scary.
6. You used to have to crank the phone to talk on it. You had to get exercise and not just talk or “doom scroll” like today and cell phones.
7. Recycling is importantly for our Earth.🌍
8. The life cycle of a salmon is fun to learn in the mini golf way. I can see why they don’t make it through the dam. My ball got stuck there forever.
9. I am excited for swimming in summer but I wish we had school too! I love school! 🏫

Happy Memorial Day Monday, GPS Families!

Today, we remember and honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom and those special people no longer with us! 🇺🇸🥰

We had a busy week short week last week, finishing up our third trimester benchmark testing and celebrating growth! We have learned so much together this year!

The Lost and Found is overflowing with coats and sweatshirts! If you are missing something from your closet, come see if it is at school! Clothes left will be donated to Father’s House on the last day of school!

Our 4th Grade students had Pioneer Day last week, where they experienced a bit of pioneer life making bread and butter, eating hard tack, playing pioneer games, and learning about Native American culture.

Things I learned from my students:

1. Before refrigerators and freezers, Pioneers and Native Americans dried their food.
2. Wapa’ means to make with hands. Pioneers and Native Americans made many things with their hands: clothes, tools, toys, medicine.
3. Native Americans made canoes. When logs would come down the river, they would snag it and make a canoe out of it.
4. Now we can go to Lowe’s or Home Depot, but then, they would have to make rope, tools, clothes, bags, etc.
5. Oak wood would be used to make tools because it is very strong…could use antler as well.
6. Pioneers had one or two dresses and they would have to make them last. They put tucks in sleeves/dresses so they could be lengthened and grow with pioneer people.
7. Native Americans continue to live in two worlds but still keep culture in routines, language, ceremony, and traditions.
8. Pa’yuumn means to celebrate. After work, Native Americans celebrate with games, horse racing, etc.
9. Native Americans dry their berries out and they are very good. Huckleberries basically turned to raisins.
10. Making butter is hard work and it has to go through three stages as you shake it, shake it. The three stages are liquid, cream, butter.
11. Reading is the best, even the chicks like to hear a story! 😂🐥

Happy Sunday, GPS Families!

I can’t believe that we have 18 days of school left! We have so much to do and so little time!

PTO put on another AMAZING Carnival last week! Families had cotton candy, popcorn, face painting, balloon animals, cupcake walk, bounce house, bike safety, and SO MUCH MORE! 🎉

Our Third and Fourth Grade ROCKSTARS completed state testing! 🌟

We met 34 future Timberwolves and their families at Kindergarten Registration! It is not too late! Call the office if you have a Kinder student enrolling in the Fall.

Students are working on informational writing and math escape rooms. Students are teaching lessons about something they are passionate about….finding their voice! Students are working hard to reach their learning goals. We are busy, busy, busy!🤩

NO SCHOOL ON FRIDAY, MAY 22 AND MONDAY, MAY 25 DUE TO AN UNUSED SNOW MAKE UP DAY AND THE MEMORIAL DAY HOLIDAY! 🇺🇸

We have an OVERFLOWING Lost and Found! Teachers will take students through to look for their lost treasures! Ask your student if they are missing anything!

Things I learned from my students this week:
1. Butterflies tickle with their fluttery wings and caterpillars tickle with all of their feet. I can tell they are related.
2. Water safety is important so you don’t drown.
3. You only have one brain, so always wear a helmet when you ride your bike or scooter…even your skateboard.
4. Bump is a basketball game of skill and speed!
5. Sharing is caring, except when you share germs. That is not caring and being careful. 🦠
6. The wind blows me off my feet. It takes all my exercise to walk in a straight line. 💨
7. Swimming lessons are fun. It is like school in the pool!
8. Math is more than just adding and subtracting. It is carrying, borrowing, multiplying and dividing, fractioning and measuring and mathing.
9. Mammals have hair, breathe air, and have live babies. Birds hatch from an egg and have feathers. Frogs are amphibians…they live in water and on land. All of these are part of the animal kingdom…even humans and babies.
10. The alphabet has 26 letters. The letters have sounds. The sounds make words. Words make sentences. Sentences make paragraphs. Paragraphs make stories. Stories are fun to read AND they teach you something if you read them!

Get a good night’s sleep. Tomorrow is another day of learning, sharing, teaching, playing, and growing! 🥰
