A very special first for CS@Mines!

We are incredibly excited and proud to congratulate Bailey, our first graduate of the Online Professional Master’s in Computer Science (MP-NT) at Colorado School of Mines! 🎉

Bailey shared what earning her degree has meant to her:

“I am a first generation college graduate. It is a huge source of pride for me to be able to graduate from such a distinguished and rigorous university. Not only is it a privilege to be an alumni of Mines, it will open unknown doors for my growing family and I in the future. CS@Mines is thrilled to welcome Assistant Professor, Minghan Li!

In Aug. 2024, she received her PhD degree from the Department of Computing at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (HKPolyU). In 2019, she received her Master’s degree from the School of Mathematics and Statistics at Xi'an JiaoTong University. Before coming to Mines, she was a PostDoc Research Fellow at Harvard Medical School.

Her work centers on building world models for dynamic environments, including visual understanding, image/video generation and editing, physical AI and AI for science. She will be continuing this work in her on campus lab called MAI Lab

We are hiring Front Desk Student Workers for the Spring 2026 semester

This is a front desk student worker (work study) position for the Computer Science department.

Administrative and customer service duties include but are not limited to: data entry, assisting with marketing materials, hanging up and taking down flyers, creating documents, assisting with events, being the first point of contact for others when they walk into CS office, light cleaning duties, answering emails, making reservations, and other duties depending on the event and project.

This is in-person for 3-5 hours/week, located in the CS office (CTLM 244). The pay rate is $15.61 per hour.

The position is for spring 2026 with the possibility of extending it for future academic years (not summers).

Applicants MUST have work study funds, NO EXCEPTIONS!

The Department of Computer Science invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the broadly defined area of Quantum Computing, with an anticipated start in Fall 2026. While we expect to hire at the Assistant Professor level, exceptional candidates may also be considered at a higher rank. We seek a creative and ambitions researcher whose work complements and expands our strengths in computer science and applied interdisciplinary engineering. Candidates whose research bridges multiple subfields, connects with industry or national laboratories, or integrates experimental and theoretical approaches are especially encouraged to apply. Areas of interest include:

Quantum computer architectures (hybrid quantum-classical computing systems, secure and scalable design of quantum computing platforms);

Every semester in CS@Mines, all students in CSCI 406 (Algorithms) participate in our signature AlgoBOWL Competition. Teams are assigned an NP-Hard problem and tasked with: (1) creating (huge!) inputs that will be challenging for other teams to solve; (2) designing and running heuristic algorithms to solve other teams’ inputs; and (3) verifying that everyones’ solutions are, in fact, valid. Since the problem is NP-Hard, we can’t know whether any solutions are actually optimal. Yet some heuristic algorithms are better than others, which means the competition is always fierce!
