«Είμαι η Μαρία Ιωαννίδου. Είμαι ψυχολόγος και υπαρξιακή ψυχοθεραπεύτρια. Χορεύω τα τελευταία έξι χρόνια». Έτσι ξεκινάει να ξετυλίγει το νήμα της σχέσης της με τον χορό, την κίνηση, το σώμα της η Μαρία, που έχει κινητική αναπηρία εκ γενετής, λόγω εγκεφαλικής παράλυσης από περιγεννητική επιπλοκή. Ξέρει καλά ότι οι περισσότεροι πιστεύουν ότι οι άνθρωποι με αναπηρία δεν μπορούν να χορέψουν. Κι αυτός ήταν ο λόγος που η ίδια στερήθηκε τον χορό για 30 ολόκληρα χρόνια. «Από τεσσάρων χρονών ξέρω ότι ο τρόπος που θέλω να εκφράζομαι περνάει μέσα από τον χορό και την κίνηση. Αλλά για 30 χρόνια είχα πιστέψει τα “εσύ δεν μπορείς”, “εσύ δεν κάνει να χορεύεις”, “αυτό δεν είναι χορός”», αναφέρει. Στο ταξίδι της συνάντησε εκείνους που θέλουν να χωρέσουν τα ανάπηρα σώματα σε ένα συγκεκριμένο καλούπι. Έχει καταλάβει πια ότι πάντα θα υπάρχουν άνθρωποι που δεν έχουν χώρο για την αλήθεια των άλλων. Το ζήτημα είναι πόσο και πώς μας αφορά αυτό. Για τη Μαρία, η απάντηση είναι ξεκάθαρη: «Χορεύω γιατί απλώς δεν μπορώ να μην χορεύω». Χορεύει γιατί έτσι επικοινωνεί την αλήθεια της. Στη διαδρομή της βρήκε ανθρώπους που άνοιξαν χώρο και έγιναν συνοδοιπόροι. Ανάμεσά τους, ο δάσκαλός της, ο Ήρα Κω., ο οποίος «δεν κάνει χορό για κάποια σώματα». Κάνει χορό για ανθρώπους. Γιατί για εκείνον ο χορός είναι όπως ο ύπνος, το φαΐ, ο έρωτας – ένα δικαίωμα ζωής. Τα ανάπηρα άτομα δεν είναι ούτε καημένοι ούτε ήρωες. Το πρόβλημα και με τις δύο αυτές ταμπέλες είναι η απόσταση που δημιουργούν∙ η εντύπωση ότι είναι κάτι «άλλο», κάτι που δεν είμαστε εγώ κι εσύ. Και η Μαρία θέλει ακριβώς το αντίθετο: να είναι κάτι που είμαστε όλοι, ο καθένας με τον δικό του τρόπο. «Θέλω να είμαστε όλοι στο ίδιο μέρος. Ούτε ήρωες, ούτε καημένοι, ούτε “διαφορετικοί”. Άνθρωποι.
