Have you ever had a season of can’t?
Like things that used to be fine and easy and life-bringing are suddenly beyond your reach. When you try to do them you feel stretched thin and worn out. Even things you used to love, feel hard and burdensome. You almost feel like you’re losing yourself or who you believed yourself to be.
Seasons of can’t can come after a lot of diappointment or heartbreak. They can come after doing to much for too long. Sometimes they come and you have no idea why.
I’m coming out of one of those seasons and I just wanted to remind you that if you’re in a season of can’t, let yourself be, let yourself rest. You’re not going to be able to rush the process, when you do you’ll just be frustrated and confused. You’ll ask yourself BUT WHY CAN’T I, but it doesn’t matter why, just listen to the sound of your own exhaustion and don’t force yourself to do things you don’t have the grace for. Your heart is telling you no, hear her.
I can’t tell you how long it will take or how many months or weeks will go by, but I want you to know that one day you will wake up and suddenly you can. You will do a thing and you will say, wow I feel good, I feel like me. Don’t take things too fast, pace yourself, you’re fragile still, but keep listening to your internal voice…because she knows.
If you’re in a season of can’t, your days of can will come again. Be gentle with yourself, you matter. Sometimes these season are just the right thing to remind you that your value is never in what you do or what you’re capable of, but in who you are as a human. Seasons of can’t can be a gift, it’s just hard to recognize sometimes.
Hang in there.
Love,
Jess
