The Boilermaker’s Local 27 in St. Louis (1547 S. Broadway St. Louis MO 63104) and Jason Hettel (President/Business Rep.) welcomed the St. Louis Section of the AWS to hear from Jeff Ellingson and Tripp Tuggle of Hypertherm about their new Sync system.

This month is Women’s History Month. And to celebrate women’s contributions in our industry, AWS is hosting the inaugural Women in Welding Virtual Conference on March 25, 2021.

In 3 days, this one-day, mini-conference will feature four prominent women across all sectors of the welding industry, including Barbie (), Chloe Hudson (), Becky Tuchscherer, and Sue Reiter. Moderators, Stephanie Hoffman () and Monica Pfarr will also be there to host insightful panels. Join us as they share their professional history, the challenges they’ve overcome, and insight into how they advanced their careers. They’ll also address topics faced by women in the industry from attendees during a panel discussion.

L&C now offers a three-day, non-credit, fast track Saturday program that lets you learn the skills and safety practices to perform various types of welding on carbon steel. You will learn three welding processes and cutting, plus basic fabrication.

It is a great way for hobbyists to learn basic welding safety and skills. Welding is an ideal profession for those who love to work with their hands. Welders work in a variety of environments, both indoors and out, using heat to melt and fuse metal for a common bond. If you are a physical person with an eye for detail and the ability to concentrate, consider a rewarding new skillset. Many of the products we use today involve welding, so your opportunities in the welding industry are endless.

Tools, supplies and protective gear are the responsibility of the student. At the conclusion of the class, you will have a final project that you will be able to show off your new skills.
