Students’ projects from our studio art courses. Students learned different skills and techniques in their painting, basic design and drawing classes using a variety of mediums.
We also offer art lecture courses for students who are interested in learning Art History I Art-141 from prehistoric through the Middle Ages; Art History II Art-142 from pre-renaissance to the present; Non-western Art Art-153 ; the Art of Film Art-140 and Art-130 Intro. to Visual Art.

Art-235 Painting I students explore value and tones through oil paint within the tradition of Grisaille painting. Students learn how to paint from observation and create a monochromatic painting for their first project. The course includes a set of basic paints, brushes and canvas. Students made bowls and cups using the potter’s wheel. Finished pieces were glazed and fired in the soda kiln.

For the Basic Design II Self-portrait project, students learned about Color Mixing, Triadic, composition, value, proportion, and emphasis. Students also learned how to render the face, anatomy and planes of the head using acrylic paints.

Students in Art-131 Basic Design I created an architectural-based design which is described using two-point perspective. Within each design, students must include inspiration from an existing piece of architecture, using design principles and creativity to expand upon their design.
