🎉 Big News from Our Nurse Aide Program! 🎉
Our first-semester cohort has successfully completed clinicals at Sanders and Walter Reed Hospital—and we received positive feedback from both sites! Clinical Experiences are High-quality Work-based Learning experiences. These experiences build competence, confidence, and a deeper understanding of the profession. Clinical experiences are also a critical component of medical licensing, as they ensure that healthcare professionals are adequately trained to provide safe and effective patient care.

Plus, a huge thank you to Ginger Spencer from Heartfelt Touch Massage, who certified our students in Compassionate Touch—a therapy proven to reduce stress and improve comfort for those with dementia or chronic illness. Her nonprofit provides this service free to the community! 💙

Yesterday, Thanks to the Hampton Roads Workforce Council, GHS students attended the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME) second annual maritime mentorship event at the Norfolk Hilton Main Hotel. The purpose of this program is to expose high school students to maritime career opportunities, educational requirements and a summary of a day in the life of a person working in each of the different careers.

Students toured different vessels and met with leaders/mentors from companies in the maritime industry. Thank you to Moran Tugs, McCallister Towing, Crofton Industries, Dominion Energy, Newport News Shipbuilding, NNS Apprentice School, Maersk Shipping, and American Bureau of Shipping.

Last week, 16 Gloucester High School students finished a paid Skilled Trades Bootcamp. They each worked alongside a professional from Larry's Plumbing, Miller's Services, Gloucester Toyota, and Gloucester-Mathews Care Clinic. From Monday-Friday, they each spent a day in a different trade, giving them a peek at 5 different opportunities.

The students' feedback was nearly unanimous—they all enjoyed the experience, gained new insights, and even discovered potential career paths to explore.

This opportunity was possible thanks to a generous grant from the Gloucester Community Foundation. Thank you!

Thank you so much to Miller's Services, Gloucester Toyota, Larry's Plumbing and Gloucester Mathews Care Clinic for providing the opportunity to learn and explore new careers with your awesome mentors!!

As we continue to celebrate February as Career and Technical Education Month at Gloucester High School, we had visitors from Page Middle School and Peasley Middle School to our CTE programs last Thursday & Friday.

You may remember, that we visited them in November. While we were there, we invited the 8th graders to see the programs in action firsthand.
About 370 of them signed up to come and they all seemed to have a great time learning about the programs that will be available to them when they come to the High School next year!
