Founded in 2006, SailGHS is the only high school racing program in Gloucester, Massachusetts. SailGHS provides free programming for local youth who show an interest in competitive sailing. Thanks to the generosity of the City of Gloucester, and our community partner Maritime Gloucester, the program operates out of the Fitz Hugh Lane House on historic Harbor Loop overlooking Gloucester Harbor, the

oldest fishing port in America. The SailGHS racing season begins in early spring, where the team braves frigid temperatures and snow to compete in the Mass Bay League: North Division B. In the warmer summer months, SailGHS operates a 9-week sailing program that provides the opportunity for local youth to meet the team and learn the basics of racing. In the winter months when ice covers the harbor, the team participates in monthly meetings where local racers and sailing experts presented tactics and sailing experiences. SailGHS is community funded and managed by a group of local volunteers. The backing of local sailors and supporters pays for all program costs including safety and racing equipment, boat maintenance and acquisition, insurance, coach salaries, regatta entry fees, and more.
