Students are loving this feelings chart and activity. It is empowering for young children to be able to express how they are feeling and why they are feeling a certain way. I also added a few new activities to the language shelf as students continue learning how to make work choices and care for the materials.

Challenge #3 of Implementing Montessori in a traditional Public School…..no returning students. With all new children each year and no 3 year cycle, the only role model in the classroom is me. It is difficult. It takes time. It gets messy. But it’s worth it to see the independence, concentration, self-motivation and confidence grow.

This resource includes 2 activities. A number puzzle where students match the numerals to the quantities. The second is a first letter sound activity where students fill in the missing first letter sound that corresponds to the picture. These are perfect for the beginning of the school year as students reinforce their learning with hands-on activities.

Here are a few things I do during the first week of school as a Montessori teacher working in a traditional public school. I am almost ready to meet my new students! 😊

This activity offers students an alternative way to learn and remember letter sounds by giving a visual mnemonic to go with each letter. This activity involves pin poking and sewing which also helps develop small motor skills as well as eye-hand coordination. I am beyond grateful for all your follows on Instagram and Facebook. Your kind comments, words of support, humor and encouragement make my day. And the idea that something I post might be helping someone else has made my journey feel worth all the struggles and insecurities. I continue to feel inspired. Thank you 😊 🫶

Since I am teaching in a public school with a Montessori background, I get asked a lot about where I get my materials. Many I saved from when I had my own program, others I use my classroom budget for, I buy them out of my own personal money, and I have had some purchased through Donor’s Choose. I also have an Amazon wish list and several have been purchased for my classroom through that. I also make materials which is just something Montessori teachers do 😊. I keep slowly adding more and more to my classroom.
