Defendant: Sophie Erdman — guilty of 4 unforgettable years 💛

Four years ago, Sophie walked into Glenwood Mock Trial as a freshman. Today, she leaves as an incredible competitor and one of the best mock trial attorneys in the nation. 🥹

Traveling to Philadelphia in 2024 and standing where the Constitution was drafted ✍️ — though the 42 bronze statues remain the one piece of evidence that got away.

🏆 State Tournament Recap ⚖️

GSHS Mock Trial Team 1 represented Glenwood Springs at the Colorado State Mock Trial Championship in Fort Collins. The tournament is hosted by the Colorado Bar Association.

The team battled hard and finished with a strong 3-1 record, defeating Poudre HS, Rocky Mountain HS (), and Coronado HS (), and falling in a very close second-round matchup to Broomfield HS ().

With that performance, Team 1 placed 7th overall in the state — joining over 30 other GSHS teams that have finished in the top 10 during the past three decades.

Team 1 finished the season with a 10-2 record. While we had hoped for a deeper run, we are incredibly proud of this young squad. They showed heart, growth, and resilience all season long.

Thank you to the Colorado Bar Association and all the judges, volunteers, and teams who made the state tournament possible.

We’re already excited for next season — this young team has a bright future ahead, and the fight continues!

Reflecting on our 2025/2026 season leading into state this weekend…
In November, we competed at the Empire 2025 World Championship in Chicago, IL, going head-to-head with the best teams from across the country and around the globe. ⚖️ As a young team we learned so much going against some of the best competition out there, and had a ton of fun along the way. Finished 16th; 1 ballot short of the top ten.

Thanks to .mocktrial for being an amazing opponent that taught us so much! Shout out to .mock.trial Y’all are the best scrimmage partners!

Proud doesn’t even begin to cover it. This experience pushed us, inspired us, and reminded us why we love mock trial so much.

Huge shoutout to for putting on an absolutely world-class event, and to all the teams, judges, and volunteers who made it epic!

Grateful for the memories, the growth, and the chance to represent Western Colorado! 🔥

Favorite mock trial memory: After we won state in the hotel room, when Eva finally got to punch me in the stomach after 3 years of anticipation. I think it was a well deserved victory (and a pretty solid punch)

Message to the team:
Thank you for an amazing 4 years. Every single one of you has turned what was an accidental sign up elective into one of the most transformative experiences of my life. You have helped me learn how to be confident, make good arguments, and (most importantly) talk to women effectively. I’ve made lifelong friends and too many memories to count. To my besties - Eva and Claire - it was an honor to be your co-council over the last 3 years. Together, we were a force to be reckoned with, and it was nice knowing that you always had my back. I’ll miss having you both by my side. To the rest of my team: thank you for believing in me and always being willing to hype me up (even though I was frequently wrong about many things...). I can’t wait to see what amazing things you accomplish. To the remaining members: I remember being placed on Team 1 freshmen year having close to no idea what mock trial even was - and look at where I ended up. While it may feel like you have overwhelming shoes to fill, you are more capable than you realize. Believe in yourself, in each other, and especially in your coaches. I’m excited for all the success you’ll have next season. Thanks for an unforgettable 4 years, I can’t wait to see what each any every one of you accomplishes.

Favorite Mock trial memory: There’s actually so many it’s hard for me to chose!! 2nd round state sophomore year, cry laughing with Zac and Isabel at Boulder battle, being a crazy Russian on the stand, nationals, all the traveling with the team.

Message to the team: Mock trial is absolutely the most impactful thing I have done in high school, I have been given opportunities that would not have existed without mock trial. I have never regretted putting in the time and energy that I did. stick with it, I know it’s hard and time consuming but you’ll see how wonderful the payoff can be. Oh! And also get sewn into your suits!! And go to gladiator!!! And love every moment with your team!!!!

3rd Place in the State. Missed out on getting to compete in finals on a tiebreaker. Claire Quintenz was the 3rd best witness in the tournament and the 4th best attorney. Mason McCarty received an honorable mention for delivering the best opening statement in the tournament. Here are some stats from the season:

2nd Place at Empire World Championships - 7-1 record in prelims and lost on a 4-3 split decision in finals
Boulder Battle Champions: 4-0 won every ballot
Regional Champions: 4-0 won all 12 ballots
3rd in the State: 3-1 won 9 ballots

This marks the 3rd time in the last 3 years that we have placed in the top 3, and only 2 losses during the state season those 3 years, both times to the eventual state champion.

We are so proud of our 4 amazing seniors, whom we will miss so much next year: Elizabeth Fullerton, Mason McCarty, Claire Quintenz, and Eva Simpson!

Western Slope Regional Champions! We traveled to Grand Junction with all three of our teams this past weekend. Our team 1 placed first with a record of 4-0 and 12/12 ballots, also earning the professionalism award. Our Team 2 came in third, barely missing out on State.

Across the teams, we earned 6 of the 10 individual awards. Claire Quintenz won both a best attorney and best witness award. Tadeo Murillo earned a best witness award. Hayden Everett, Sydney Roemyn and Mason McCarty each earned a best attorney award.

We are so thankful to all of the volunteers that made this weekend possible!!
