Every year I format a public domain text for use by students in my leather binding workshops and anyone else looking for something to bind. These books are sold in unfolded sheets. This year's book is The Maltese Falcon, the quintessential hard boiled detective story, featuring San Francisco private detective Sam Spade. The Maltese Falcon was serialized in the magazine Black Mask in 1929 and first published in book form by Alfred A. Knopf in 1930.
I downloaded the text and title page from public domain sources, and did most of the formatting earlier this year in and near San Francisco where the author worked for a time as a Pinkerton detective, where the novel was written, and where the story is set.
Sixteen sections, five folios each, 320 pages total.
