Many people first try acupuncture for pain. But that's only one piece of the picture.
Traditional East Asian Medicine addresses the whole person, not just isolated symptoms.
Patients often seek acupuncture for:
• Stress
• Digestive concerns
• Headaches
• Women's health
• Sleep
• Allergies
• Sports recovery
• Overall wellness
Health is about balance, not just symptom management.

At APA of PA, our focus isn't competition.
It's competency.
Patients deserve healthcare providers who have extensive education, clinical training, and demonstrated competency before performing invasive needle procedures.
Our mission is simple: Protect patients through education, transparency, and high professional standards.

You've probably heard the term "dry needling," but did you know it uses the same FDA-regulated needle as acupuncture?
The procedure commonly referred to as "dry needling" uses acupuncture needles inserted into the body for therapeutic purposes. It is also a style of acupuncture that can overlap with "trigger point acupuncture," "orthopedic acupuncture," or "sports medicine acupuncture."
As a patient, it's important to understand who is performing the procedure and what training they've received. Licensed acupuncturists complete extensive graduate-level education, hundreds of hours of supervised clinical training, and rigorous instruction in anatomy, clean needle technique, patient safety, and managing potential complications before they are licensed to practice.
When it comes to any needle-based procedure, training matters.

APA Board members Suzanne Landis Kaczor and Janelle Farkas will be participating in a panel discussion on Dry Needling, hosted by the Pennsylvania House Professional Licensure Committee.
This live-streamed event is an important opportunity to help educate legislators and the public about dry needling from the perspective of the acupuncture profession. The House Professional Licensure Committee plays a key role in reviewing legislation that may be introduced for consideration in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.
We're grateful for the opportunity to share our profession's expertise and to advocate for patient safety, appropriate education, and high standards of care.
Join the live stream and listen to the panel discussion on Tuesday, July 28 here - https://www.youtube.com/live/tM-VW2zDE-w
The meeting will start at 10:00 AM; the discussion on dry needling is expected to start at 11:00 AM.

Many people ask: "What exactly is acupuncture?"
They can be surprised to learn that acupuncture is defined under Pennsylvania law as the insertion of needles into the body for therapeutic purposes.
Acupuncture is a complete healthcare system practiced by licensed acupuncturists who receive extensive education and clinical training.
Whether you're seeking help for pain, stress, headaches, digestive concerns, or overall wellness, acupuncture offers a whole-person approach backed by thousands of years of clinical practice and growing scientific research.

On June 3rd, members of the Association for Professional Acupuncture in Pennsylvania had the opportunity to visit the Pennsylvania Capitol and meet directly with state legislators to discuss the important role acupuncture plays in healthcare across the Commonwealth.
Advocacy is about more than promoting our profession. It is about protecting patients. We shared information about the extensive education, clinical training, and licensure requirements that Pennsylvania acupuncturists complete before safely providing acupuncture care.
A special thank you to the 3rd-year students from the Won Institute of Graduate Studies who volunteered their time and skills to provide acupuncture demonstrations for legislators and staff. Their professionalism, knowledge, and passion for the medicine helped bring the value of acupuncture to life.
These conversations help ensure that policymakers understand the importance of maintaining high educational and professional standards while expanding access to safe, effective acupuncture care for Pennsylvanians.
Thank you to everyone who participated and helped represent our profession with excellence.
