Arcadia Exhibitions organizes programming for four distinct spaces at Arcadia University throughout the calendar year.

A nationally recognized venue for contemporary art in the greater Philadelphia area, the Spruance Gallery is a 1,100-square-foot facility (housed in a 1893 power station) that has for over 30 years provided the region with a stimulating roster of individual and thematic exhibitions shaped by our mission to encourage dialogue among artists, educators, students and the general public about current v

isual art and its socio-cultural relevance. Along with bringing the work of previously unexhibited or unknown artists to our region, Arcadia Exhibitions is committed to local artists, actively encouraging innovative approaches to art production and acknowledging the contribution of long-standing, influential members of the art community. Educational programs invite the artists and highly respected scholars and curators to discuss each exhibition with the public.

“The exhibition as a whole amounts to a mediation on the passage of time through a formal language of repetition. The sound of heartbeats serves as a kind of metronome, linking the space through a rhythm that is visceral, reiterating time as an embodied phenomenon. Simultaneously, Bunker denies fantasies of the stability of history: the stopwatch resets to zero, wax monuments appear to deteriorate, and subjects repeat actions until they can no longer continue.”

Arcadia Exhibitions is pleased to announce that our newest exhibition, “Olivia Fredricks: Corner of My Eye” is currently on view in the Harrison Gallery now through November 22, 2026.

The eighteen prints presented by the Philadelphia-based printmaker, graphic novelist, and educator in this exhibition represent Fredricks’ thematic focus on the activity of looking.

These works depict the world as a series of fleeting or passing moments of seemingly innocuous human activity— but for the fact that the artist has deemed them worthy of documentation.

Fredricks’s work reminds the viewer that the bulk of what we see as a part of our lived experience is made up of the mundane. Rather than facing this reality with existential dread, she chooses to celebrate what beauty can be found in the minutiae. This is clear from the playful, comic quality of her rendering, with its strong line work and bright colors. These moments are not monumental, but the artist conveys real joy in the noticing.

While on campus, you can also visit “Sandy Williams IV: Bunker” in the Spruance Gallery and “Helen Maurene Cooper: Blue Angels” in Rosedale Gallery.

At the heart of “Sandy William IV: Bunker”, now on display in the Spruance Gallery, is long-running Exhaustion Series (2015–2026), a collection of videos with accompanying publications in which participants perform one specific motion repetitively until they are completely exhausted.

In "Exhaustion II" Jack Doerner treads water for 1hour 24 minutes and 22 seconds

"Exhaustion III" features Geoffrey Culburtson smashes rocks for 15 minutes and 23 seconds

And for "Exhaustion V" Beth Loughran dances for 35 minutes and 24 seconds.

The series examines how the struggles of others and their continued persistence can be reflected back onto the artist as well as viewers of the films. Pushing through difficulty and endurance in the face of challenge is a core theme of “Bunker”, along with the passage of time and the relationships and memories that we carry through it.

Arcadia Exhibitions is pleased to present “Sandy Williams IV: Bunker” in the Spruance Gallery from July 1 through December 6, 2026. The show brings together works spanning a decade of Williams’ practice.

In recent years, answers to questions regarding how we should memorialize our past and how we consider the future have seemed less certain.
What will we preserve? What do we carry forward? What remains when institutions, traditions, expectations, and even our understanding of the future begin to shift?
has been making work about these exact questions via monuments, sculptures, films, and public artworks that explore endurance, memory and the passage of time.
The exhibition's title references the structures people build to protect themselves through uncertainty. Throughout the exhibition, Williams proposes a broader understanding of shelter, not as a place of isolation, but as something found in memory, relationships and care.
