SMSA School Welcome to the official page of St. Mary's Academy in Glens Falls, NY,
home of the Kerry Blues! Go, Kerries!

SMA offers an exceptional Catholic education from pre-school through eighth grade to students from across the Glens Falls region. A team of superb teachers – compassionate and creative, experienced and enthusiastic – excels in creating an atmosphere in which learning is joyful, each child is cherished, faith is celebrated and accomplishment expected. With a curriculum that exceeds New York State requirements and National Catholic Educational Association guidelines, SMA offers an academic experience second to none in the area. In a happy, disciplined atmosphere, SMA students grow strong, not only in the basics of math, science, social studies and English, but also in religion, art, music, athletics, and Spanish. Equipped with a solid foundation and strong study skills, many SMA students go on to graduate at the top of their classes at local public and Catholic high schools. Goals and schedules vary from one grade to the next, but several things remain consistent throughout an SMA education:

the individual attention necessary to help each child grow at his or her own pace;

recognition of, and respect for, each child’s particular skills, gifts and needs;
and

the desire to instill a thirst for knowledge and a love for God and neighbor. We are blessed to be able to provide local children with an exceptional education taught in the light of the Gospel, and we are indebted to Father Scott VanDerveer and the people of St. Mary's parish for the indispensable financial and moral support they provide to SMA.

Come, celebrate your Kerry pride! Join us at East Field this Thursday night, October 1, for our annual Homecoming Soccer Game under the lights! The Kerries will take on North Warren at 6:30 pm, and we'd love to see Kerries of the past, present, and future; friends and families; community supporters; and St. Mary's parishioners there to cheer them on!

Thank you to all who celebrated with us yesterday as we dedicated the school's chapel to St. Alphonsus Liguori!

The moving ceremony starting with a Eucharistic procession after the 11:15 am Mass. Our Principal, Sister Laurie-Marie, C.R., led the procession, which included children, parishioners, and former St. Alphonsus parishioners. The procession crossed the street and circled the Great Hall before heading to the third-floor chapel where the Eucharist was reposed in the tabernacle.

With the beautiful singing of the St. Mary's Choir in the background, Father led us in a prayer of thanksgiving for the many blessings St. Alphonsus Church and School brought to Glens Falls for 155 years. He dedicated the chapel to St. Alphonsus and asked God's continued blessings on the school.

After a few moments of prayerful silence in the chapel, attendees moved to the Great Hall, where St. Alphonsus graduate Lew Varney shared his memories of watching the original St. Alphonsus Church burn to the ground in 1955, the year of his graduation.

One of the items saved from the fire that night was the statue of the Infant Jesus from the church's creche, which was later gifted to Lew by Msgr. Leduc.

Yesterday, Mr. Varney donated the precious keepsake to St. Mary's for the new St. Alphonsus Chapel. Thank you to him, to Father Scott, to Laurie Butler (who worked for months preparing the chapel), to Ben Rowley and the St. Mary's Choir, and to all who made this special celebration of our shared history such a touching tribute and sacred moment. And bless us all, St. Alphonus!

Congratulations to the winners of this year's New Way Lunch Hot Dog Eating Contest! The top dog of the day was Andrew, who was able to eat 17 hot dogs and earned a round of golf for four at the Sagamore! Second place finisher Jason won an overnight stay at the Queensbury Hotel, and third place winner Ed won a family cruise on the Minne-Ha-Ha from the Lake George Steamboat Company. Thank you to all of our participants and attendees for bringing your appetites and your enthusiasm!

Biggest thanks to the Gazetos and Mineo families and all at New Way for offering this unique fundraiser to SMA once again! We are blessed by your generosity--and your food! And we were delighted to have your beautiful new food truck on our playground!
