Congratulations to everyone who completed the SOLO Wilderness First Aid course offered by PWSC in Glennallen this past weekend. We had beautiful weather to practice outside and learn important first aid and CPR skills. Huge thanks to our instructor, Ben Rush, who shared his knowledge and experience with us. Now we are ready for the summer season!

SOLO Wilderness First Aid Class in Glennallen!

Prepare for the unexpected with this engaging, hands-on introduction to wilderness medicine, taught over two days! The Wilderness First Aid certification is through SOLO, one of the most respected wilderness medical schools in the U.S. Both the WFA and CPR certifications are valid for two years. Ages 16+.

Glacier Travel & Crevasse Rescue – Spring 2026

Traveling on glaciers demands more than confidence—it requires skill, judgment, and preparation. Glacier Travel & Crevasse Rescue is an intensive four-day course designed to build self-sufficiency and confidence for anyone venturing into Alaska’s vast glaciated terrain.

This hands-on course follows the AMGA curriculum and current industry best practices, covering both personal and professional rescue techniques essential for high-mountain objectives. Whether you’re preparing for future expeditions or strengthening your foundational skills, this course delivers real-world training in a controlled, supportive learning environment.

🎉 Tour Guide Training Success in Glennallen!

Prince William Sound College’s Copper Basin Extension Office recently hosted a 3-day Alaska Tour Guide Training Workshop, led by Janelle Eklund from Wrangell Institute for Science and Environment (WISE).

Participants gained skills in storytelling, natural history, and guiding techniques—and wrapped up the course by leading practice tours with their classmates!

Great opportunity to learn trap safety for pet owners!!

Copper Basin Pet Owners, mark your calendar for the workshop that could save your dog's life! Heidi and Jack from Alaska Department of Fish and Game - Official will be presenting "Trap Safety For Pet Owners" on Saturday, January 25, 10am to Noon at the Prince William Sound College: Copper Basin classroom in the School District Building near Glennallen School.
Learn how to tell when you are near a trapline, and how to safely release pets caught in traps and snares. We will do hands-on practice with real trapping equipment, and spend some time outdoors too. No Pets please.
