🎤✨ DeSoto ISD Student Poet Shines at Tulisoma Youth Poetry Contest! ✨🎤

Congratulations to Jaelyn Martinez, a 7th grader at Curtistene S. McCowan Middle School, for earning 3rd place in the 2025 Tulisoma Youth Poetry Contest hosted by the African American Museum of Dallas! 🏆📚

Jaelyn’s moving poem, “My Grief,” showcased her incredible creativity, courage, and emotional depth — a true reflection of Eagle excellence and the power of student voice. 💛💚

👏 Special thanks to her mentors, Dr. Cora Garner and Ms. Laurene Ragsdale, for inspiring and supporting student expression through the arts.

Heads up, Eagle families — DFW is expecting a sudden drop in temperatures to the low 40s tomorrow morning! As you head out for school, make sure to bundle up and stay warm. Here are a few quick tips:

🧤 Dress in layers – sweaters, jackets, and hats help keep out the chill.
👢 Wear closed-toe shoes and warm socks.
🕗 Leave a few minutes early—cold mornings can slow things down!

All DeSoto ISD campuses will be warm, welcoming, and ready to receive scholars. Don’t forget — a free, hot, and nutritious breakfast is served daily to help start the day strong. 🍳☕🥣
