In celebration of Latino/a/e Heritage Month, the Citrus College Visual Arts and Ethnic Studies programs are hosting a documentary screening about Mexican American artist and pioneer of the Chicano art movement, Carlos Almaraz.

There’s a blue fence on the Citrus College campus these days, and that’s a sign of exciting things to come.

This August, crews began demolition of the Integrated Success Center, Liberal Arts/Business Building and the Information Systems Building to clear the way for a new Science Building and Veterans Success Center. This is the first significant construction project funded by Measure Y, a $298 million general obligation bond, which was approved by voters in 2020.

“This building will give our science students and our student-veterans a space where they can thrive and where our programs can continue to expand to meet their needs,” said Dr. Greg Schulz, superintendent/president of Citrus College. “I’m grateful to our taxpayers for helping us build a campus for the 21st century. The new Science Building and Veterans Success Center is fulfilling a promise we made to our voters and our students.”

The plans for the new building are ambitious: two connected wings, two stories tall and joined to the Education Development Center by a second-floor walkway. The building is designed to produce as much energy as it uses, thanks to a planned bank of solar panels and state-of-the-art environmental design engineering, making this a Zero Net Energy project.

In celebration of Latino/a/e Heritage Month, Citrus College is hosting a speaker program about the late local art collector Enrique Serrato and his collection of artwork, selections of which are currently on display in the Art Gallery.

Citrus College art historian Lori Rusch will discuss what it means to be a collector of art, and ceramics artist Rey Mora, who is a Citrus College alumnus, will show selections from the Serrato collection. He will also discuss his friendship with the collector, as well as Serrato's connection to the Chicano art scene of Los Angeles.

This position organizes and supervises the setup, rehearsal, performance and strike of all productions in the Haugh Performing Arts Center, including in-house productions, community group rentals, and college shows and functions. They manage individual theater productions, ensuring that the highest quality standards are met while monitoring and working within established budgets. The position coordinates among producers, house crew, the shop coordinator, rental users and all technical personnel, ensuring that communication is effective, open and consistent. The position also oversees, as needed, the design, construction, installation and strike of sets and props required for the production of events.
