Freshman students are learning about weather and climate in Integrated Science. They participated in a lab to see how climate change has occurred due to human activities.

They discussed microclimate and heat island effect that is occurring within cities around the world. Cities tend to be warmer due to pollution and the materials used to construct our cities.

Students were given the map of the campus to travel to 10 different locations to measure the temperature of the location (locations have different materials and color).

After data collection in groups of 3, students were to analyze their data and discuss the correlation to natural materials (grass, dirt, gravel) vs manmade materials (asphalt, concrete) on campus.

Hands on learning at its finest.
