But they left one way out: Doing the research for a high quality liberal arts college across the US that offers good scholarship money AND that wants the student, which means looking for a great fit. And you do not have to be the #1 student in your class. Some of these colleges will look at the family's financials. And some may not. The former helps family who lack some of the college funds; the latter helps families who are not eligible for financial aid due to not meeting the maximum FAFSA cut-off profile.
