Dear Students,
Hello, this is a message from Dr. Náñez, founder and director of the ASU Mentoring Program (AMP).This message is to inform you that there will no longer be AMP meetings on Saturday mornings.
AMP was developed as a relatively small enrollment program to find out what methods work in helping high school students gain access to ASU and to succeed academically and socially once enrolled in ASU. The original plan was for AMP to last three years and after that, to use the findings to create larger programs to serve a greater number of students. The three-year AMP research period is over and it’s time to analyze the interesting data. Notably, among other things, we have found some positive AMP outcomes. For example, students who completed AMP training were in fact successful in getting accepted into ASU or other colleges and universities and are enjoying academic success.
Given the accomplishment of AMP in preparing students for university achievement, I (Dr. Náñéz) will now focus on creating larger programs based on the AMP model to offer during the summer, when high school students have more time to focus on such programs because they are not attending regular high school sessions, involved in extra-curricular activities such as clubs, or participating in sports.
There are other programs hosted by ASU currently or during the summer break that you may want to explore by going to the ASU webpage under ASU Collegiate Scholars/Educational Outreach and Student Services at https://eoss.asu.edu/collegiatescholars. If you wish, you can email the Collegiate Scholars program at [email protected] or call them at (480) 965-6060. If you have questions specific to AMP, please do not hesitate to contact Aidee Perez at (602) 543-5695, [email protected] or Rio Candia at (602) 543-5695, [email protected]. You can reach me (Dr. Náñez) through Aidee or Rio or email me directly at [email protected].
Thank you for your interest in ASU. I wish you great success in your academic career and future.
