Loving Day is celebrated on June 12th of each year to commemorate the Supreme Court’s unanimous decision to strike down all state laws prohibiting in*******al marriage as a result of the case Loving v. Virginia.
Chief Justice Earl Warren wrote, "Under our constitution, the freedom to marry, or not marry, a person of another race resides with the individual, and cannot be infringed by the State.”

ALU is celebrating Pride Month by honoring members of the LGBTQIA+ community making an impact in their field!
Today ALU honors Mary Bonauto, an American lawyer best known for being the lead counsel in the case that made Massachusetts the first state in which same-sex couples could marry.
Mary is also one of the lawyers responsible for the Supreme Court decision that state bans on same-sex marriage be considered unconstitutional.
Mary currently serves as the Civil Rights Project Director at GLAD.
