Next up! Meet Genevieve. Genevieve has always been connected to music throughout her life. She started piano lessons at age 5, and continues playing to this day. She started vocal lessons in 2024 and has since performed a multitude of solos and duets with a variety of pieces. She is a part of her school’s Concert Choir, Chamber Choir, Barbershop/Treble Group, and is a section leader for the sopranos. With Chamber Choir, she travels to Disneyland to perform in the annual Candlelight ceremony with hundreds of accomplished musicians. Genevieve earned valedictorian, and is committed to UC Davis for Animal Science, with plans to pursue a career in the veterinary field. Genevieve and her good pal Abby will be singing this Sunday, June 7th in our Junior/Senior Recital!

First up is Annabel! Annabel Dillon is a senior graduating Summa Cum Laude from Crescenta Valley High School. She will be attending CSULB at the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music. She has been studying classical voice for 9 years at The Hummingbird Conservatory and has taken 5 years of piano/composition lessons. She has been a part of her school’s chamber choir for 4 years and took on the role of president in her senior year. She has taken part in programs such as LAYPO, the SFCM TAC Immersive, MTAC level 3 and 4, Federation of Music (getting superior in every festival she has been a part of), and took AP Music Theory in sophomore year of high school. Annabel is also the vice-president of her school’s branch of Tri-M. She has 11 completed compositions/works, 4 of which have been performed. The most recent performance of the piece Spirit Flame was very well received. Annabel is currently in the process of writing a 3 piece song cycle based loosely on The Myth of Sisyphus by Albert Camus. Recently she received a gold medal with honors at the Junior festival for the Federation of music and won 1st place in a concerto/larger works competition for the performance of 5 songs from The Hermit Songs by Samuel Barber. She also received 2 scholarships/awards from her choir, the Choir Leadership Award and the Shirley Nute Award.

The Hummingbirds have been hard at work prepping for Ensemble Festival this weekend. We have six vocal duets and one trio over the three programs. The last photo is a screen shot of my Tomodachi Life character created. Apparently she walks up to all the other characters and asks them if they sing. This is generally the 3rd of 4th question I ask people in real life.
