The first day of Dr. Robert Fintelmann performing SMILE Pro at the Midwestern University Eye Institute. SMILE is a fast way to improve vision compared to LASIK and it takes 15 minutes or less. We are excited to be the first practice in Arizona to use the Visumax 800!

Academic Challenge tonight 8-9 PM EST at Dallara Hall IndyCar Factory. Fourth years Jenelle Yaldo, Nicole Boyer, and Josh Reese will be competing. Come support them!

AZCOPT hosted the inaugural GPLI Specialty Contact Lens Symposium on October 19th. Thirty-three residents, faculty, and private practitioners attended from all over North America. Drs. Wendy Huang, Robert Fintelmann, and Pierce Kenworthy gave a stellar virtual lecture on corneal disease and surgical co-management to the attendees followed by a robust in-person Q&A session. Attendees evaluated various contact lens fits on normal and irregular corneas under the guidance of CLMA and Bausch & Lomb industry representatives and Drs. Ed Bennett, Tom Quinn, Anita Gulmiri, Jack Rouleau, Elizabeth Escobedo, and Sydni Davis. Dr. Florencia Yeh presented a lecture on ocular prosthetics the following day.

Last week the OD2s practiced foreign body removal on some jello corneas! Great work! 🤩

🎃 Yesterday, AZCOPT students and faculty brought the Halloween spirit to life with some fun and creative costumes both in clinic and during lecture! We hope that everyone's attire added an extra spark to the day, making patient visits and learning sessions even more memorable.

Celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month at AZCOPT! 🌎💫We celebrate this month honoring the culture and contributions the Hispanic community has had on our country. We had tables in the Eye Institute and Glendale Hall filled with many goodies including conchas, chips and salsa, wheat pinwheels, and Mexican candy. Thank you to all who set up and created the lovely decorations!

Happy World Sight Day! 🌎👓 Today is dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of eye care in all ages! Did you know that the human eye can distinguish about 10 million different colors? Despite this incredible ability, over 2.2 billion people globally have some form of vision impairment, many of which could be addressed with access to basic eye care services! Make sure to schedule your yearly exam to maintain your eye health!

Last week, AZCOPT Class of 2028 received their clinical white coats 🥼we are so excited to see how this class will grow into the future of eye care! Receiving their white coats is the first major milestone to their optometric career, follow along on their 👁️ journey to see what’s next in store for them

After 14 years at AZCOPT, Dr. Blacker has announced he will be leaving teaching to explore other optometric avenues! He began his teaching career at AZCOPT with the class of 2013, playing a part in multiple classes such as Methods, Optics, Sports Vision, Spanish Optometry, Business, and Contact Lens! He was first drawn to MWU by the great environment to learn and grow and enjoyed working with people who are singularly focused on helping others achieve their goals of becoming an optometrist. The number one thing Dr. Blacker said he would miss the most were the students. His finals words of advice for AZCOPT is a quote from William Butler Yeats, “education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.” We will miss you tremendously Dr. Blacker, and we wish you well on your new pathway!
