They now fly........😲
Animated by Wind, Theo Jansen's 'Strandbeest' Sculptures Have Evolved into Flying Creatures
Each spring, a fledgling creature waddles, wriggles, or slithers across a Dutch beach. The sculptural animals are known as Strandbeests and are part of a growing menagerie by artist Theo Jansen (previously), who's been constructing large-scale, kinetic beings powered entirely by the wind since

I hate to say it, but after ten years MMW is going to close on December 10. I just can’t make this work in the Covid era, with the closures, reduced capacity, and no clear reopening date in sight. There’s been a lot of good news coming out, new government, possible new vaccine, but unfortunately, there’s too much uncertainty to continue to operate at a loss. I’m grateful to all who donated to our GoFundMe; it was a major lifeline in the beginning of the pandemic, but now unfortunately, the shutdown has lasted longer than any of us would have hoped.
It’s tough. I’m really sad about it and I spent the summer angry and frustrated. But now, as I look around the quiet shop, I’m reminded of the amazing ten years we’ve had prior to the closure and I’m grateful for that time. The closure date of December 10, 2020 is exactly 10 years since MMW got it’s first baby DBA. And now that I’ve got a wife, a 10-month old real baby, and a mortgage, I gotta look to the future.

Awning up and ready for outdoor classes. Screens and tables on deck tomorrow. Pretty proud I did this solo in five days. Pretty embarrassed I hit it with a forklift right at the end. Long days in the heat.... We gonna be ready for this weekend! @ Molten Metal Works

A great before/after of a shelving unit made by MMW member in open shop. Love seeing finished projects; if you got any more send em my way. And looking forward to getting going again, just waiting on updated Stay At Home orders. In the meantime stay safe and keep dreaming of what you can make. •
