We are so pleased to share that at last week's board meeting, the Peoria Unified Governing Board unanimously approved a three-year contract for Dr. Kenneth Christopher (KC) Somers, Ed.D. to become Peoria Unifiedโ€™s next superintendent beginning on July 1, 2024.

The Governing Board also approved a transitional contract for Dr. Somers that will allow him to join Peoria Unified on April 1, 2024, prior to the start of his three-year contract. During this transition time, he will serve as assistant to the superintendent, working alongside Mr. Kevin Molino, the districtโ€™s current acting superintendent, through June 30, 2024, when his three-year superintendent contract will then take effect.

Appointing a superintendent is one of the primary jobs of the Governing Board. The Peoria Unified Governing Board considered feedback from all stakeholders and followed a prescribed process outlined by McPherson & Jacobson, LLC. The process was rigorous and included the voices of students, teachers, support staff, administrators, parents and community members. In November, the Governing Board unanimously voted to enter into contract negotiations with Dr. Somers as the next superintendent.

Dr. Somers will join Peoria Unified from the Lewis-Palmer School District in Monument, Colo. where he has been serving as their superintendent for the past five years. During his tenure, Dr. Somers worked to transform the Lewis-Palmer School District with an academic-first approach which has led the district to perform in the top five percent of all Colorado schools. Prior to this appointment, he served in a variety of roles in school districts across Colorado including as the Area Superintendent of Aurora Public Schools. Dr. Somers earned his Doctorate in Education from the University of Phoenix in 2013. Additionally, he earned his masterโ€™s degree in education from the American Intercontinental University and his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from University of Notre Dame.

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Somers to Arizona and the Peoria Unified family! ๐Ÿ‘‹

We are excited to share that the Peoria Unified Governing Board voted unanimously to enter into contract negotiations with Dr. Kenneth Christopher (KC) Somers to serve as the districtโ€™s next superintendent. Pending the result of successful contract negotiations and background check, the Board is expected to officially approve him as superintendent at a future Board meeting.

The Peoria Unified Board considered feedback from all stakeholders and followed a process outlined by their consultants from McPherson & Jacobson, LLC. Appointing a superintendent is one of the most important responsibilities of the Governing Board and we are grateful for their diligence through this process.

We are grateful to Mr. Kevin Molino for his service as acting superintendent. Mr. Molino will continue to serve in the role until a contract is negotiated and an agreed upon start date for the new superintendent is determined.

Dr. Somers shared, โ€œI am prepared and eager to not only lead this school system, but also live in a community where I can build relationships and partner with families to ensure that all students receive the quality, personalized education they deserve.โ€
