My favorite robot for beginners is Codey Rocky. He has some really cool features, like an ultrasonic sensor that you can use to code him to avoid obstacles. You can also get creative with how he looks by building on him with LEGO Technic blocks.

Some serious problem-solving/experimentation going on! Experimenting with each of the sensors trying to find the best ones for his project. The sensors on the top of the chair leg work the best. The sensors on the bottom of the chair leg don't work. Trying to find the best sensor to detect a drought. We have landed on the light sensor. *Thought process is that the murky lake only let's a small amount of light through (we trialed this with a drop of food coloring). When there is no more water in the lake, the light gets through.

Playing with the technology portion of our Solutions for the Future project. My students were tasked with creating a solution regarding protection or detection against natural disasters or severe weather. Each caption describes what their technology is doing.

It's here! It's here! Our Makeblock Neuron set has finally arrived! I can't wait to create a fun course incorporating these super fun robotic components. Currently, this set will be used with my little group of 4th graders. We are utilizing them as we work on AZ science standard 4.E1U2.10 Define problems and design solutions to minimize the effects of natural hazards. The students are brainstorming ideas to aid in the detection or protection against natural hazards. They will need to incorporate at least one of these components in their projects. I can't wait to see and share what they come up with!
