Hello Discovery Families!

We are excited to celebrate your kindergartener's transition to First Grade on May 22nd at 8:30am in our Discovery Cafeteria.

Here are a few things to know:

· Gates will open for guests at 8:00am.

· Please leave all large items and balloons at home or in your vehicle for your celebrations after our ceremony. It is important that we have space for guests and that guests have a clear view of the promotion. These items are also not permitted in our buildings, as they are a fire hazard.

· The promotion celebration will begin promptly at 8:30am. Please make sure all students are on time. Students who arrive late may not be able to join their classmates once the celebration has started.

· If your child has a Discovery sibling you would like to attend promotion, please keep the sibling with you until after the promotion. We are not able to call into classrooms to retrieve siblings.

· Pictures and congratulations may take place in our courtyard following the celebration.

· If you would like to sign your child out of school following the celebration, please find a staff member with a clipboard near the exit gate.

Dear Eighth Grade Families,

Parents and their guests are invited to share in our 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony being held on Wednesday, May 22nd in the Performing Arts Facility at Independence High School at 5:00PM. Students need to arrive by 4:30 PM.

Tickets: 8th Graders will receive their 6 tickets on Friday, May 17th.

Space is limited in the auditorium, therefore parents/guardians and their guests must have a ticket to enter the Promotion Ceremony. Each participating student will receive 6 tickets for the family. Every attendee will need a ticket, with the exception of the promoting student. Children 2 years and younger do not need a ticket if they are sitting in a ticket holder’s lap.

Program Etiquette: We look forward to ceremonies at our schools that are memorable for all students and families in attendance. Please remember to:

Be courteous and refrain from loud gestures which may prevent other families from hearing their child’s recognition.
Leave any balloons, flowers, gifts, and/or noisemakers at home for your celebrations after the ceremony. These items will not be permitted in the auditorium.
Behavior Expectations: Students who earn an out-of-school suspension on the date of Promotion are not eligible to participate in the Promotion Event.

Dress Attire: It is requested that our students dress in a manner that takes into consideration the educational environment, safety, health and welfare of oneself and others. Please adhere to the GESD Dress Code for this event:

GESD Dress Code
We are thrilled to celebrate the successes of your eighth-grade student. Thank you for supporting your child’s educational journey and for being a very important part of the GESD family.
