The benefits of training together as a family unit go beyond group-exercise.
Yes it’s important to set the example of how to lead a healthy and active lifestyle, but the non-physical benefits outnumber the physical ones.
When you step onto the mats with your child, you’re teaching them:
- How to face challenges with confidence
- That learning is fun
- To be disciplined enough to show up on days you don’t feel motivated to
- How to adapt and stay calm
- Consistency is key
These lessons extend beyond the mats and into every day life at school, work, and home.
A 2013 study by PubMed suggest that “positive parental involvement in youth sports is associated with greater enjoyment, stronger motivation, continued participation, and positive developmental outcomes — particularly when parents emphasize support rather than pressure.”
Studied like these remind us that Jiu jitsu can be about more than developing a technical skill. It can become something a family shares.
Your child may not remember every technique they learned.
But they’ll remember who was there with them.
