Happy Pride Month from MWU SLP! 🌈

This month, and every month, we’re proud to celebrate and support the LGBTQIA+ students, faculty, staff, clients, and community members who make our program stronger.

We are grateful for the many perspectives, experiences, and voices that make up our community and help create a place where people can learn, connect, and be themselves.

Wishing everyone a safe, joyful, and affirming Pride Month.

Know someone navigating communication or cognitive changes after a traumatic brain injury? We’re looking for participants for an upcoming Midwestern University research study this summer. Feel free to share with anyone who may be interested in learning more.

This May, we honor and celebrate Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, a time to recognize the cultures, histories, voices, and contributions that have helped shape our communities and our nation.

We celebrate the diversity, resilience, innovation, and leadership of AANHPI individuals past and present while continuing to learn from and uplift the stories that enrich our shared history. 🌺🌏

May is National Speech-Language-Hearing Month, a time to recognize the impact of communication across the lifespan.
Speech-language pathologists support individuals from early childhood through older adulthood in schools, clinics, hospitals, and more. At Midwestern University, we’re proud to help train future clinicians who will make that impact every day.

Meet Professor Little, Clinical Assistant Professor in Midwestern University’s Speech-Language Pathology program.

Professor Little’s areas of interest include AAC, aural rehab, autism, speech sound disorders, and developmental language disorders. She’s passionate about supporting students across a wide range of clinical areas and helping them build confidence as future clinicians.

Her favorite part of teaching? Watching it all click. As she shares, “I love seeing our students grow in confidence and those ‘ah ha’ moments when they happen.”

Her advice to students: No question is dumb—if you’re wondering it, someone else is too. Ask questions and don’t be afraid to ask for help.

Favorite quote: “If you are positive, you’ll see opportunities instead of obstacles.” – Widad Akrawi ✨

Outside of work, you’ll find her spending time with family, taking photos, enjoying musical theater, or doing a little shopping.

This is who runs your program, teaches your classes, supervises your sessions, and edits your SOAP notes… and this is who they were when their biggest concern was snack time 🍼
Same people, just a few more degrees and a lot more emails later 😌

🎃A haunted house but it’s just… grad school, SLP edition.

Laptop crashes, IPA symbols appear on the walls, flashcards whisper your name, and the only coffee left is decaf. 😱

👻Survive if you can.

Our SLP students joined the H.O.M.E. (Health Outreach through Medicine and Education) event at Vista Colina this weekend! 🏡 Second-year students taught first-years how to screen preschoolers for language delays, while DO and PT students learned more about the vital role of SLPs. 💬✨
