Happy Juneteenth, everyone! Today, we come together to celebrate freedom, reflect on history, and enjoy the company of our loved ones.

Juneteenth, celebrated on June 19, commemorates the day in 1865 when Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced the end of the Civil War, finally freeing the last enslaved African Americans. This was more than two years after President Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation had officially outlawed slavery.

It’s an ideal opportunity to educate your children about this significant chapter in our nation’s history and the enduring spirit of freedom and equality.

Thank you for another incredible year, scholars and families!

As you welcome your summer break, I want to acknowledge all of your hard work, challenges and triumphs from the school year. Learning is more than grades and tests—it's about curiosity, resilience, determination and growth.

What you learn today shapes who you become and how you lead. Our society needs people with bright minds and good hearts. You are those good hearts and bright minds.

To our 8th graders, TeamSVA is so proud of you! As you step into a new chapter in high school, we can't wait to watch you thrive as you take what you learned at Sun Valley Academy to the broader community.

To our wonderful scholars returning next year, we already can't wait to see you and hear about your summer adventures!

And, of course, thank you to all the families and teachers—your support is the foundation under every student at SVA. Thank you for showing kindness, empathy, wisdom and compassion even when it’s hard.
