How wonderful to receive such a note from a student. At the end of the day, we choose music to express ourselves in ways that words can’t. Once you get there, it’s magical, and one of the most gratifying, fulfilling and meaningful experiences we can have as humans. I’m honored I could play a part in fostering that in others.

First post in my series on Music Analysis for Advanced Performers. Understanding the inner mechanism of a piece of music can unlock a deep, meaningful and moving interpretation of substance.

Once we recognize the prolongation in a given piece of music, a harmonic progression becomes one unit – therefore, reducing the many notes to fewer meaningful objects that we can then relate to in a simpler manner.
