Congratulations to GVHS Band member and 2026 Drum Major Hayley Atene, who performed with the Reading Buccaneers as they captured the 2026 DCI All-Age World Championship!

DCI is the premier competitive circuit for drum and bugle corps, bringing together outstanding performers from across the country. Hayley spent her summer rehearsing, performing, and traveling with the Buccaneers for a second consecutive season, and her hard work helped lead to this incredible accomplishment.

We are so proud of you, Hayley. Congratulations!

Big shout out to our 2026 Drum Majors Hayley, Sean, and Kevin AND drumline member Cooper who had an awesome week at the WCU INCOMPARABLE Golden Rams Marching Band Marching Band Leadership workshop last week. They learned a ton, made some great memories, and are bringing plenty of new ideas and energy back to GV.

GVHS BAND ALUM WILL THROW OUT FIRST PITCH AT MLB ALL-STAR GAME!

We are so proud of GVHS Band alum Shana Pistilli, Class of 2011, who will throw out the ceremonial first pitch at the MLB All-Star Game!

A former standout percussionist and outstanding member of the GVHS Band, Shana has gone on to achieve incredible things. She was recently named the winner of the 2026 MLB & Mastercard Small Business Contest.

Shana is the founder and executive director of the Rubato School of Music, where she has created an inclusive music-learning environment for children of all abilities. Her work helps students build confidence, express themselves, and experience the joy of making music.

Selected from 119 applicants, Shana received a $10,000 grant, business mentorship from Mastercard, and the opportunity to throw out the ceremonial first pitch before the MLB All-Star Game.

What began as a small 200-square-foot studio has grown into a thriving music program with a remarkable 98% student retention rate. Shana plans to use the grant to expand the school, hire another instructor, and create additional lesson opportunities for Philadelphia-area families.

We are incredibly proud to see a former member of the GVHS Band using music to make such a meaningful difference in the lives of young people.

Congratulations, Shana! Your dedication, creativity, and commitment to helping students find their voice through music are an inspiration to the entire Garnet Valley community.
