To wrap up the most important things to know about JOB APPLICATIONS in wildlife🐾, conservation🌿, and environmental sciences🌍 fields for the month, the last thing I’d like to emphasize is…

TAILORING yourself to the position, which I call MATCHING🎯

Many people are turned off by the idea of “selling” yourself😬. But when you match yourself to the position, this is what happens naturally and with ease 😎

Here’s where most people go wrong ❌

They:

📜 Lead with their education by saying they have the degrees they have (which is obvious from their resume) or explain the courses 📚 they took, which employers don’t care about much (they want PROVEN experience, not knowledge)

🛤️ Write about their career path like it’s a story to read

✍️Write in generalities about their experiences

🗣️Talk about what they want in their career

That’s nice and dandy, but for the employer posting the position, they are thinking, “Who can actually do this job? Who can start the fastest? With the least amount of work for me?💭

Instead, show how your specific experience matches the posting🥾📄.

The 1st post addressed the BIG mistake of applying for as many jobs as possible in wildlife🐾, conservation🌿, and environmental sciences🌍 fields...hoping that you will get one🤞

I showed you that if you don’t qualify for the job, your chances of getting it are very low 😔…

But you know what else makes this a big mistake?⚠️

You cannot TAILOR your application to the specific job you are applying to ❌📝 When you are applying to tons of jobs, this is impossible! You simply don’t have the time or energy to do it well⏳😵‍💫

When you match yourself to the job, or in other words, show why you are the ideal candidate for the position, you are showing the organization how you can help THEM by fulfilling the position 🤝
