This summer, College of DuPage’s Youth Academy partnered with Manufacturing Technology and Business & Applied Technology to launch a new grant-funded manufacturing camp, giving middle school students an immersive, weeklong introduction to modern manufacturing, production finishing and coating.

The ChemColors Manufacturing camp was supported by SparkForce, the FMA Foundation and the Industrial Finishing and Coating Association Education Foundation.

Students learned from industry professionals at Avient and BASF Chemetall before testing their skills in COD’s VR Lab using SprayVerse simulation software, which was donated through the grant. They then applied those skills during a hands-on experience at the Technology Center of DuPage, where they painted their own model Jeeps using liquid paint in the Automotive Technology lab.

The week concluded with a visit to Elgin Sweeper, where students toured the manufacturing facility, observed professionals at work and gained firsthand insight into careers in the industry. They also demonstrated their understanding of color, branding and finishing by creating and presenting their own “Color of the Year” boards to their families and COD employees.

Since 2019, Manufacturing Technology and Business and Applied Technology have partnered with Youth Academy through SparkForce grants. This new partnership, together with the continued success of the Cutting-Edge Creators camp, introduces students and their families to the exciting world of manufacturing while inspiring the next generation to explore high-demand career opportunities.

As always, we are incredibly grateful for the support of our internal and external partners. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this experience possible for our students!

It's an honor that Innovation DuPage is featured as the cover story in the July issue of Neighbors of Glen Ellyn magazine with our very own Dr. Joe Cassidy.

This story reflects on the seven-year journey of Innovation DuPage (ID) helping entrepreneurs transform ideas into thriving businesses, creating jobs, supporting innovation, connecting College of DuPage students with meaningful career and internship opportunities and contributing to a stronger regional economy.

While we're proud of what we've accomplished, this recognition is really a celebration of the people and partnerships that have made it all possible. We're grateful for the unwavering support of Innovation DuPage, College of DuPage, the Village of Glen Ellyn and ID's network of more than 70 community, corporate and economic development partners who share our commitment to fostering entrepreneurship and economic growth. Together, we've built an ecosystem where innovators can launch, grow and succeed.

We're also grateful to Laura Black and the entire Neighbors of Glen Ellyn team for taking the time to tell our story and highlight the impact that entrepreneurship can have on individuals, families and communities.
As we celebrate this milestone, we're even more excited about the future.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of this incredible journey. Here's to what's next! 🎉
