As we close this year’s chapter of Energy Express, we want to take a moment to express our sincere gratitude to the children, families, and friends who made this summer so special. This program would not be possible without your unwavering support—and for that, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. 💛
What an incredible six weeks we’ve had together! It’s hard to believe that it’s already come to an end—but time really does fly when you’re having fun, or so they say. 😊
We wrapped up today with a fun-filled Movie Day, watching Ice Age: Continental Drift! 🍿❄️ We enjoyed popsicles, popcorn, juice, and plenty of snacks. Before dismissal, the children had a blast playing on the playground. It truly was the BEST last day we could have asked for! 💙
📸 Parents, please feel free to save any photos of your kiddos!
The Energy Express page will be deactivated on Friday, August 8, 2025. Until then, it will remain public so you have time to download and save any pictures you'd like to keep. Again, please make sure to do so before that date.
Thank you for sharing your summer with us—it’s been a joy every single day. 💫

As part of our Make My World a Better Place Week at Energy Express, we were excited to welcome Kristie Norris, a school counselor at Beckley Elementary 💛. Kristie read Just Help by Sonia Sotomayor, a powerful book about how even small acts of kindness can make a big difference—not only in our own lives but in the lives of those around us 🌎💫. We’re so thankful Kristie was able to spend time with us and share such an inspiring message 📚✨.

We were also thrilled to be joined by Hunter Breeden, a former Energy Express mentor! Hunter generously volunteered his entire day with us—reading one-on-one with students and helping our current mentors begin preparing their classrooms for the program’s end. Hunter, we appreciate your time, energy, and continued commitment to our program. It meant so much to have you back with us! 🧡

To top off the day, our mentors were very excited to surprise Mrs. Karen Daniel with a small token of appreciation for all of the heart, time, and love she’s poured into Energy Express this summer 🎁💐. Karen has provided all of us—and our students—with the opportunity to learn, grow, and impact one another over these past six weeks. We love you, Karen, and we’re so thankful for everything you do! 💕👩‍🏫🌟

Good morning, parents, guardians, family, and friends,

Yesterday was our Open House, and we had an absolute blast!

Lakyn’s class kicked things off with a festive parade set to John Denver’s classic “Take Me Home, Country Roads.” Jenna’s class followed with a creative play inspired by a live reading of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. Next, Riley’s class wowed us with an a ca****la rendition of Oh My Darling, Clementine by Freddy Quinn.

And last, but certainly not least, Olivia’s class premiered the movie they’ve been working on for several weeks—Spider-Man and the Mix-Up! It was such a treat to watch their hard work come to life on screen.

After the performances, families toured the classrooms and admired all of the incredible artwork and projects our children have created this summer.

We are so grateful to all the parents and loved ones who came out to support their children—and to everyone who made this summer at Energy Express so special. We’re proud to say that Open House was a great success!

🌍📚 We kicked off Make My World a Better Place (MMWABP) Week with a very special guest—Mrs. Sherrie Hunter, Director of Education for the Raleigh County Solid Waste Authority!

Mrs. Sherrie read the heartwarming story The Waterville Wizard by Don Madden and shared powerful lessons about how we can take care of our planet. 💚

We learned that littering harms the Earth, and even small actions—like picking up trash—can make a big impact. She also reminded us of the three golden rules: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle! ♻️

Mrs. Sherrie also wowed us with her creative homemade paper bag projects, inspiring us to think twice before throwing things away. We had such a meaningful start to MMWABP Week and we’re so excited to welcome her back again tomorrow! 🌱✨

Although we’re a day late on our weekly Friday post—better late than never! ✨

This week wrapped up our Community Week theme, and wow, did we learn a lot! We explored the many roles that help keep our community safe and strong, and we spent time talking about what community truly means to us. 💬🏡

From smiling faces to hands-on fun, we made memories that will stick with us—especially while making our own homemade play dough! 👩‍🍳🎨

We’re so thankful for our incredible participants and their families. Thank you for being such a valuable part of our community and for everything you do! 💛

Stay tuned for more fun ahead!🎉🌤️

Today, we had the pleasure of welcoming John and AJ Zilinski to our site! 📚🚨 They read Flash the Donkey Makes New Friends by Rachel Anne Ridge, and it was such a heartwarming story. In addition to the book, they shared all about their important work at the 911 Dispatch Center in Raleigh County.

We learned about how they help coordinate law enforcement, medical services, and fire and rescue—and what we should do if we ever need to call 911. From knowing our address to staying calm during emergencies, they taught us so much! 🧠💬

We had an amazing time and are so grateful they could spend the day with us. Thank you, John and AJ! What an incredible father and son duo.🙌📞💙

Side note: AJ was a mentor with Energy Express at Fairdale in 2023, and now he’s come back as a celebrity reader! 🌟 We are so thankful and happy to see his Energy Express journey come full circle since his year of mentoring.💛📖

Our first post of the week is coming to you a day late — but that’s only because yesterday was nothing short of incredible! ❤️ Community Week is off to a beautiful start.

Some of our classes began the week by painting murals to hang in the halls, sharing their love and creativity with our Fairdale family. We also placed leftover food at our community tables and read books all about the power of community and why it matters so much.

And don’t miss the photos included from this week’s awesome STEM project — our students have been hard at work and having a blast! 🔧🧠🎨

We can’t wait to see what the rest of the week brings and look forward to seeing everyone again soon! 💛🏘️📚
