Thank you to for spotlighting Webb Institute! ⛵

The Bay Area's sailing magazine caught up with two Webb alumni who've made their mark on the West Coast waterfront: yacht designer Jim Antrim ‘72 and marine engineer Paul Kamen ‘73. They overlapped at Webb, sailed together on our team, and both graduated debt-free.

Jim calls attending Webb "one of the best decisions I have ever made," pointing to the hard work, the tight-knit community, the honor code, and the Winter Work periods that put him in industry before graduation.

That formula hasn't changed. Every Webb student still receives a full-tuition scholarship, individual attention, and real-world experience in the field. And as U.S. News now gives more weight to student outcomes, Webb has returned to the Best Colleges rankings at No. 3.

A bonus for Bay Area readers: the China Cabin on the Belvedere waterfront came from a steamer built by William Henry Webb, who founded our school in 1889.

Worth the wait! After the weather postponed the Freshmen Boat Race during Family Weekend, last Friday brought beautiful conditions for our newest Webbies to take to the water… and the Webb family was there to cheer them on!

It was wonderful to see their creativity, teamwork, and engineering come to life, and watch how each boat handled the water. The big question: would their designs keep them afloat? 👀

With the Webb family cheering them on, it was a day full of excitement, laughter, and Webb pride.

Family Weekend Q&A, unscripted.

A parent asked, “Is it better to spend all your winter work terms with one company, or to diversify?”

Owen Klimczak ’27 spent three sessions at NASSCO working on Military Sealift Command vessels and says it's a trade-off. It's a big advantage for anyone heading into that sector. Even for a career in cruise ships, though, working to military design standards builds an attention to detail that stands out with any employer.

That's the Webb difference: real shipyard experience, every single year.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for Family Weekend 2026! This weekend brought students and their loved ones together for classroom learning, Winter Work presentations, and a closer look at what makes Webb so special.

Webb welcomed collegiate sailors to Glen Cove this past weekend for the 2026 COHO Memorial Regatta!

Our waterfront came alive as our Webb Clippers competed alongside students from Columbia University, Hamilton College, SUNY Maritime College, Stony Brook University, Stevens Institute of Technology, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, and the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

It was a wonderful day of competition, camaraderie, and college sailing on the Long Island Sound. Thank you to all the sailors, coaches, volunteers, and supporters who helped make the regatta possible, and congratulations to everyone who competed!

A special thanks to William (Jack) Prior ’27 and Marc Leyk '28 who ran this committee and kept the day on course.

Our Webb Triathlon Club took on the Sea Cliff Triathlon this weekend, swimming the Long Island Sound, cycling through the Village of Sea Cliff, and running along the shoreline. Naval architects and marine engineers know a thing or two about the water, and this crew proved it's more than theory.

Congratulations to Nora Williams '29, Audrey Williams '27, Lauren Roley '27, Joseph Estrella '29, and Sean Keane '27 for representing Webb on the course. Small school, mighty athletes.

For more than 30 years, Webb Institute has played a small but memorable role in Batman history, appearing as Wayne Manor in , , , and .

Our latest story goes behind the scenes with Webb memories from the filming of Batman Forever.

When Batman Forever was filming here, our Dean, Matthew Werner ’95, PG’97, was a senior. Gailmarie Sujecki (Hon.) Executive Assistant to the President and Director of Alumni Relations was 15 years into her career at Webb. Today, they walk the courtyard that keeps turning into Wayne Manor, and they are the reason this history is a set of first-hand memories and not a trivia entry.

In celebration of Batman Day tomorrow, Sept. 19th 2026, discover how our small engineering college became part of Batman’s cinematic history.
