BOARD MEMBER HIGHLIGHT:
Vineta Mitchell, Ph.D., MBA/MHCM, BSN, RN, CMCN, CCM

Vineta has been in the nursing profession for over forty-five years. During which time, she obtained broad clinical and educational experience. Mrs. Mitchell worked Intensive Care for 11 years and earned certification in Critical Care. In conjunction to working in Critical Care, she was a member of the founding steering committee for Quality Assurance at Mount Carmel Hospital and actively participated in the implementation of the Quality Assurance Program from 1985-1993. Most recently, Vineta has been working in Medical Case Management and is the owner of an Independent Case Management Company- specializing in Field Case Management. Vineta has worked at various insurance plans and obtained experience in Utilization Management, Discharge planning, and Disease Management. She has obtained certification in Managed Care and Case Management. Vineta has coauthored an article on Field Case Management and Encouraging students to select Nursing as a career. Vineta has earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and her Master’s Degree in Business and Healthcare Management. She has completed her doctoral degree in education with a specialization in nursing education. Vineta brings a wide variety of experience in managed care nursing. She has volunteered with AAMCN as a mentor since 2008 and as a writer and reviewer for the Study Guide Revision Committee. Vineta is a member of the Michigan Nurses Association-Detroit Chapter, National Black Nurses- Detroit Chapter, Case Management Society of America- Detroit Chapter, Professional Case Management Journal Reviewer, and a member of the National Notary Association. Vineta Mitchell is a community-oriented individual with a personal mission to assist others in obtaining knowledge to empower themselves to make the best decisions about their health. Vineta continues to inspire and motivate students by working as an Adjunct Faculty Clinical Instructor at one of the area’s Community College’s Nursing Program. Vineta’s professional and personal desire is to “make a difference,” which is her company’s motto. Her continued long-term commitment to nursing, teaching, learning, and Field Case Management makes her an asset to the Nursing Community!

Koby Mitchell, MSN, RN, CMCN

Koby Mitchell, MSN, RN, CMCN has been an active member of the American Association of Managed Care Nurses (AAMCN) since 2020 and has held her Certified Managed Care Nurse (CMCN) credential since 2021. In 2025, she was honored as AAMCN’s Managed Care Nurse Leader of the Year, with one nominator describing her as “one of the most respected and most knowledgeable leaders in our company.” Koby also served as a presenter at the nursing preconference during the 2025 Fall Managed Care Forum. She currently volunteers as an AAMCN mentor, actively encourages membership, and supports colleagues pursuing CMCN certification.
With more than 18 years of experience across utilization management, case management, and managed care operations, Koby brings a comprehensive understanding of healthcare delivery spanning inpatient, outpatient, post-acute, and appeals environments. Her professional experience includes Medicare Advantage, Medicaid, D-SNP, I-SNP, and commercial health plans, providing a broad and balanced perspective on the evolving managed care landscape.
Koby also facilitates a comprehensive training and mentorship course for nurses transitioning from bedside roles into utilization management, focused on regulatory knowledge, practical workflows, and real-world case application. Her work reflects a commitment to workforce development, regulatory excellence, and advancing the practice of managed care nursing.

Angel A. Oddo, RN, BSN, MPM, CMCN, CBE

Angel has been a member of AAMCN since 1999 and has served as a member of our board since 2023. In addition to volunteering as a member of the Home Study Revision Committee, acting as a presenter for multiple chapters, Angel has held her CMCN since 2024. She's also been an active participant at our Managed Care Forums.
As a managed care leader for many years, Angel’s experience includes leading utilization, case and quality management programs across many different healthcare and business environments, primarily within health plans. Angel is the Principal Consultant for JMA Healthcare Advisors, serving health plans and health systems regarding utilization, case, disease and quality management, population health, accreditation, operational strategies and transformation to meet the next generation of managed care.
Previous managed care roles include the national clinical quality leader for Anthem (now Elevance Health), vice president of utilization, case and quality management for HealthAmerica (now Aetna), and vice president of utilization and case management for government programs at Sentara Health Plans. She developed and implemented the utilization and case management departments for the start-up of UPMC Health Plan and has additionally worked in big-data organizations during her career. Angel's experience includes strong regulatory and accreditation experience with NCQA, state Medicaid programs, CMS, and participation in healthcare industry organizations providing thought leadership and speaking engagements. In addition to her clinical and business education, Angel is a graduate of Harvard University’s Business Analytics Program and leverages this knowledge towards implementing evolving technology to improve case management and utilization management outcomes.

The AAMCN Home Study Program (18 CEUs + certification exam prep!)
Taking a broad view of managed care, the AAMCN Home Study Course: A Comprehensive Introduction to Managed Care Nursing undertakes familiarizing students with the full spectrum of the managed care industry. From case management to continuous quality improvement, from utilization management to Medicaid managed care products, from HMOs & PPOs to Reimbursement, from provider profiling & accreditation to HIT; the program establishes a background of managed care key topics alongside history, legal and ethical issues, and negotiation skills.
In addition to a Textbook covering these wide ranging topics, the Study Guide contains over eight hours of video presentations that complement each chapter of the Textbook. The Study Guide also includes a glossary of terms and practice questions.
Passing the Home Study Course post test earns the student 18 NCPDs. It also qualifies students to sit the Certification in Managed Care Examination administered by the ABMCN.

Eileen Scott, RN, BSN, CMCN
Eileen, current AAMCN President, has been a of AAMCN since 2013 and has over 25 years of Managed Health Care and 13 years of Clinical experience as a Registered Nurse. She helped to shepherd the AAMCN’s Study Guide Revision project, and she has served on the AAMCN Board of Directors since 2022. Eileen also co-authored an article in the American Journal of Managed Care on a research study of “Prioritized Post Discharge Telephonic Outreach Reduces Hospital Readmissions for Select High-Risk Patients” in December 2012.
Newly retired, Eileen's most recent position was as Program Management, Senior Advisor, Consumer Health Engagement (Evernorth). She developed the National Utilization Management Program for Cigna in 2003 and has participated in numerous Clinical Utilization Management & Care Management Improvement initiatives, Operational Effectiveness, and Information Technology initiatives. Her experience includes clinical programs, UM/CM quality & accreditation, delegation oversight, case management, continued stay inpatient management, precertification, claims, and appeals. She has proven her ability to ensure quality of care coordination within technology environments using health care business rules to deliver automation, consistency, and prioritization of managed care services.

AAMCN is currently accepting submissions for consideration for publication in the Journal of Managed Care Nursing.
Submissions must be received by 5/15/2026. Submissions are not limited to AAMCN members. Please feel free to share this call for articles with colleagues who might be interested. Submissions and questions can be directed to [email protected].
Word count is very flexible--around 1,250-2,500 words, but we've published longer and shorter articles. Please see our author guidelines for submission instructions. Articles should be relevant to United States managed care and have sound and timely references. No articles that endorse services or products should be submitted.
