Congratulations to the recipients of the 2026 SGES PTA Thomas B. Fernald Scholarship!

The Thomas B. Fernald Scholarship honors students who have used their time, talent or education to be a leader in their community. The Thomas B. Fernald Scholars are awarded money raised by the Shady Grove Elementary School PTA through the Cardnival. The Shady Grove Elementary PTA established this scholarship to honor the school’s first principal, Thomas B. Fernald. Mr. Fernald had a strong impact at Shady Grove, making sure he taught his Cardinals stewardship and leadership in addition to academics. We wish all of the applicants the best in their future journeys!

To wrap up Staff Appreciation Week on Friday PTA Hospitality treated SGES staff to a catered lunch from La Vita E Bella and parent volunteers covered classrooms to give staff the gift of time to enjoy an extended lunch break. “Popsicles on The Playground” after the rising kindergarten sneak peek ended up indoors today due to the rain, but that didn’t stop them from having fun and meeting new friends they will be in school with in the fall!

TONIGHT! Get ready for an unforgettable night of creativity, coding, and pure fun at Code Ninjas on Saturday, May 2nd from 5:00-7:00 PM. Students will jump into an action‑packed game‑design workshop using Code Ninjas’ block‑based coding platform, where they’ll team up with our awesome Senseis at the Code Ninjas Glen Allen center to build their very own video games from scratch. They’ll design them, play them, tweak them, and even share their creations with friends. And yes—there will be pizza for dinner, because every great game‑building adventure needs fuel.
Code Ninjas will donate a portion of proceeds to the Shady Grove PTA to support our school community.
