The other night, we awarded Jay Staxton from Helping Hand Behavioral Health with Outstanding Field Instructor of the Year!
This was based on student nominations for their dedication and commitment to preparing students for their future careers as social workers and creating a meaningful internship experience.
Here is what student Brooke Hickman had to say about Jay:
“I believe that Jay’s greatest strength as a supervisor is her humility. She has this innate ability to meet clients, interns, supervisees, and colleagues where they are without judgment. She does not seek to flaunt her degree or license or to use her power to her advantage. Instead, she seeks to continue learning from others and to better herself so she can provide well-informed, comprehensive care. Jay is self-made and knows what it is like to work your way up from the bottom. She takes what she does very seriously and sees things from a perspective that most others do not. She genuinely loves the work that she does and takes her time to let each person tell their story exactly as they want it. Jay does not see herself as better than anyone; instead remaining authentic, down-to-earth, approachable, and witty.”
