We pause to remember esteemed Professor of Music, Veda Zuponcic.

Veda joined Rowan University in 1971 and served in the Department of Music until her recent passing on June 3, 2026.

A fierce advocate for musical excellence, Veda was endlessly energetic, elegant in her manner, and brimming with determination and skill in bringing her goals to fruition. She worked in Wilson Hall for every moment of its existence, and it is difficult to picture the building without her.

This workshop offers a transformative shift for the music educator, broadening the focus of traditional concept-driven instruction to center the student’s cognitive
and emotional needs.

Looking at the intersection of neuroscience, culturally responsive practice, and the psychology of learning, participants will learn how to prioritize student belonging and agency as the foundation for academic and musical success.

We will explore the idea that when students ‘learn to learn,’ are having fun, and know they are fundamentally valued, their musicality and confidence grow.

This week-long intensive balances theoretical insights with actionable classroom strategies and practical activities, ensuring that every child—regardless of background or aptitude—feels a true sense of belonging while becoming an empowered, joyful, resilient learner.

Spotlight Series: Betz & Gillece Quartet

The Betz & Gillece Quartet will present a program highlighting original compositions and fresh arrangements, blending Brian Betz’s lyrical guitar style with Behn Gillece’s modern vibraphone voice. The concert will feature music from Behn’s recent album Pivot Point (Posi-Tone, 2025), as well as new works slated for his next recording. Together with Dan Monaghan and Charles Ford, the group offers an evening of swinging, dynamic, and forward-looking jazz.
