Gray for a Hero

Today, the staff at Barren County Area Technology Center wore gray in honor and remembrance of Trooper Hayden Phillips.

Our thoughts and prayers remain with Trooper Phillips’ family, friends, fellow law enforcement officers, and all those whose lives he touched.

Today, we proudly wear gray to honor a hero.

BCATC SkillsUSA is headed to Washington, D.C.!

We are excited to wish Abbey Doyle and Karden Kinslow safe travels as they head to Washington, D.C., September 25–30, for the SkillsUSA Washington Leadership Training Institute (WLTI)!

Abbey currently serves as the Kentucky SkillsUSA State Historian, and Karden serves as the Kentucky SkillsUSA State Vice President. We are incredibly proud to have two BCATC students serving in state leadership positions and representing our school and Kentucky SkillsUSA at the national level!

While in our nation’s capital, Abbey and Karden will participate in leadership development activities, strengthen their leadership skills, connect with SkillsUSA members from across the country, and experience our nation’s capital.

A special thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Spence for traveling with our students and helping provide them with this incredible opportunity. Your time, dedication, and continued support of our students and SkillsUSA are greatly appreciated!

We are so proud of Abbey and Karden and know they will represent Barren County and Kentucky SkillsUSA well!

From an idea to a business!

Our Entrepreneurship and Welding students teamed up for a fun, hands-on Welding Product Challenge! Students worked in teams to design a metal product that could realistically be fabricated and sold for a profit.

They combined the skills from both programs to create their product, identify a target market, estimate material and labor costs, determine a selling price and profit, develop a brand, and then finish the activity with a Shark Tank-style pitch to their classmates!

This was a great example of what CTE is all about, students from different pathways working together, problem-solving, communicating, and connecting classroom skills to the real world.

And after all that hard work, there was a reward! The students wrapped up the activity by enjoying donuts with Mr. Owens! A pretty sweet way to celebrate a job well done!
