There are so many ways that children connect with nature at The Wetherill School both indoors and outdoors. A favorite annual activity is saving the seeds from sunflower heads after the flowers stop blooming so we can plant them again in spring. Children strengthen their pincer grasp for writing by tweezing these seeds. This also introduces children to the cycle of life.

We call this creating "extensions and variations."
