🌱 Help Our Girdwood School Garden Grow This Summer! 🐻

Our school garden needs a little community love over the summer, and we would be so grateful for families, neighbors, and friends who can sign up to help care for it for a week.

The good news? It’s easy to do! There is a short YouTube video that walks you through all of the steps, so you will know exactly what to do when it’s your turn.

School’s out for summer, but we are still celebrating all the growth, joy, and Grizzly memories packed into our final week! 🐻

What a way to wrap up the year. Our middle schoolers biked to the Nordic loop, kindergarten and 1st grade adventured to Whittier, we celebrated our 8th grade and kindergarten graduates, enjoyed the annual Lions Club BBQ, spent hard-earned Grizzly Bucks at the Bonanza, and soaked up every last moment of the final day together.

This week was full of the best kind of school magic: adventure, celebration, community, and connection.

Thank you to our students for bringing the energy, laughter, curiosity, and heart all year long. Thank you to our families, volunteers, community members, Lions Club, PTA, and partners for showing up again and again for our Grizzlies. And thank you to this incredible Grizzly team for the love, care, and steady support you poured into students every single day.

Schools out for summer, Grizzlies. We are so proud of how much you have grown, how far you have climbed, and all the joy you carried with you along the way. 💙

Today we celebrated our Kindergarten graduates! 🎓🐻

These Grizzly cubs have grown so much this year. They learned new routines, built friendships, practiced courage, solved problems, shared ideas, and discovered just how much they are capable of.

We are so proud to send them on their way with a strong start for the rest of their educational journey. First grade, here they come!

A fundraising note from Ms. Straley:

My Project
Help Me Bridge Yoga and Social-Emotional Learning to Empower Tweens and Teens

As a certified Forrest Yoga teacher and a licensed educator (Grades 1–8), I have a unique vantage point on student development.
Every day, I see my students navigating an increasingly complex world. They face academic pressure, test anxiety, and social challenges that can leave them feeling overwhelmed and dysregulated.

I know firsthand the transformative power of yoga and mindfulness. My goal is to bring the healing, grounding practice of Forrest Yoga directly into our school as a dedicated elective, while seamlessly integrating mindfulness and Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) concepts into our core academic classes.

To make this vision a reality, I am seeking funding for a specialized professional development course: Mindfulness, Yoga, and SEL for Adolescents. While I hold deep knowledge in adult yoga instruction, this training will give me the targeted, age-appropriate tools needed to effectively reach and teach tweens and teens.

By supporting this project, you aren't just funding a course for one teacher; you are investing in the lifelong well-being of many students.

When students learn how to breathe through a difficult yoga pose, they learn that they can breathe through a difficult math problem. When they learn to quiet their minds on the mat, they learn how to navigate social conflict with grace.

Your generosity will help my students learn to self-regulate, reset from stress, and refocus on their goals. Ultimately, fusing yoga with SEL will help them become more productive, empathetic, and resilient citizens who are fully equipped to handle whatever life throws their way. Thank you for investing in their future!

It’s time for your next adventure. 🐻

To our eighth grade Grizzlies, today marks the end of one chapter and the beginning of another. You have grown, led, laughed, learned, and left your mark on Girdwood School in ways that will not be forgotten.

Grizzlies grow by looking back with gratitude, noticing the strength built along the climb, and carrying that love and learning forward.

As you take this next step, remember that your voice matters. Your words matter. Your ideas matter. No matter what anybody tells you, words and ideas can change the world.

We are so proud of who you are and who you are becoming. Keep dreaming big, asking questions, choosing kindness, and carrying your Grizzly spirit wherever you go.

Congratulations, 8th grade graduates. Your next adventure is waiting. 💙✨
