Opportunity for advanced string students in Alaska:

CALLING INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED STRINGS MUSICIANS! We have a one-day FREE workshop for you! In conjunction with our Nordic Nights event, Sarah Jylkka, from Nordic Daughter, is offering a free community workshop on Friday, August 30, from 10am-12noon.
Sarah is a Detroit native living in Denver, Colorado. Sarah earned her Bachelor's in Music Education from DePauw University in Indiana and currently holds a professional teacher's license in the state of Colorado. Sarah plays both violin and viola professionally and recently closed the chapter on 5 years of directing middle school orchestra in order to pursue a career in continuing education and performance.
Participants in the workshop will tune, play basic scales, and read through string orchestra music together. This is an educational event so some selections will be beginner friendly. Do you play a non-string instrument, but want to attend? Please register and fill out your instrument type and we’ll make sure we have music available for you. You can also email [email protected] to sign up or simply show up! We hope to see you there! Participants must bring their own instrument.

Explained to a young music student of mine today who’s about to embark on an across-seas move, “I want you to be able to decode this music yourself, so when you go to [far-way-country], you can play anything you want to. Because what I REALLY want is for you to be happy, and to know that you can play any music you want.” He smiled knowingly and gave me a wise, approving nod.
Musical ability gifted lovingly is power, and music is joy. 🙏🏽
